I see what you are saying. But for me it was very very glitchy and hard to do other stuff. However the biggest hang up for me is inability to use Waze on it. Idk where you live but in LA Waze is an ESSENTIAL for commuting to work. Shaves about 15-20 minutes off my commute compared to apple maps, google maps, or traditional GPS. However I will say that I have found that the MyLink NAV is just as good or within 3 minutes of WAZE. Anyone else in a super populated city feel the same? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I will agree that Waze is pretty damn amazing in congested cities where your route can be blocked for miles.

I have the 6S with 9.3.5 and have minimal issues with Carplay. I think it works better than I expected it to. As I get in the car and my seat is adjusting, I plug in my phone to the USB cord so Carplay pops up on the screen. I don't like Apple Maps very much, but we don't have much of a choice with Carplay. There are ways to use Google Maps and Waze in the background with announced directions, but no map display. I did save $500 by not going with the MyLink Nav system. I always have my 7" Garmin, but nowhere to mount it.

The simple fact that I cant do these following two things:
1- Have my passenger CHECK my messages without carplay mirroring my phone. For instance, I'm using the map, they wanna check, it goes STRAIGHT to it.. Or whatever the hell youre doing 2- you cant SCROLL through your music. I dont want to depend on siri. It takes 15 seonds from when i start the request, until the song comes on. No. |

On Friday I brought my car into the dealer for a rear diff fluid change and asked them to update my Carplay, but I didn't even realize there was an IOS update for the iPhone until just now. I just updated to IOS 10 on my 6s but don't have my Camaro with me today (raining). I'll test it out when I get home and report back.
So far though (running the prior iPhone IOS release) I did notice that alerts from driving apps while listening to the radio still screw things up. Songs from iTunes don't start auto-playing anymore, but you also still don't get your radio broadcast back unless you press a button - so it's still the same end result - you need to touch the screen. Happens in MyLink or Carplay...it's obvious they didn't test these systems out with any commonly used apps (Waze, Escort Live) which is pretty disappointing. We shouldn't even need to go to the dealer for these updates in the first place.

Very strange things happen with iPhones and MyLink. I accidentally made a call but immediately cancelled it before the other phone rang. MyLink totally froze. Turned off MyLink. Turned off the car. Nothing. Wouldn't do anything until I unpaired (is that a word?) my phone. Everything went back to normal and I was able to pair my phone again. Sometimes after a call I have the issue where I have to touch the MyLink screen to get the music going again. Doesn't always happen, just once in a while.
![]() BTW - I don't normally use CarPlay. Just bluetooth since I have built in nav and store my playlists on a flash drive.

This seems like a lot of complaining over something that doesn't have to be used. Does it work perfectly?? No, it does not. It does have some bugs. Sometimes mine works perfectly fine, others it's not as good. But remember, the first cars to ever receive this was late 2014 and that was only a few. Cars really didn't start incorporating until Jan of this year for the most part so it will get better with time as it is still very new.
As for the people looking for Waze.....i'm sure it will be available at some time. Remember when iPhone wouldn't allow Google Maps in the app store because they came out with Apple Maps??? Well look how many GPS apps there are now. Give it time..... |

what i find annoying is that talking on the phone thru car play is unusable. NO ONE can hear me. pretty much have to put iPhone on speaker. haven't tried Bluetooth calling cause cant be in use at same time as car play, and i hate the quality difference in Pandora when listening thru Bluetooth compared to cable..

Biggest and most meaningful upgrade to me was the reordering of the apps on the screen and also remove apps if not using. Also you don't need to update anything on the car, its all on the phone. |

Huh? That's not true. Google Maps was on the iPhone way before Apple maps... in fact the native "maps" on the iPhone was powered by google maps until Apple maps came out 4 years ago. That's when google maps became a separate downloadable app. Plus it's not fair to compare the iPhone to CarPlay in the sense of availability. But you are right that only time will tell. Or... Actually play songs from my Spotify library with out HAVING TO START SOMGS FRON THE IPHOne FIRST! That's right, the Spotify app won't play your paused song when you get in your car. Why is the song paused? Because I pulled my headphones out of the phone before getting in the car. I then connect the phone via USB, drive away, and launch the Spotify app on car play. Not only will Spotify NOT show "now play playing", but it will also REFUSE to play any songs from my downloaded library. The solution, pull out my phone from the center console, and press play on Spotify from the phone itself. Great, now I'm fiddling with my phone while driving. Thanks, Apple! |
