Summer Basketball Officiating in full effect mode! I'm reffing 4 games this Sunday at ACA Sportsplex, starting at 3PM.

I had the honor to meet this great NBA Referee last weekend at the Texas Officiate Day held at the Grand Hyatt. Yeah, I get it with all the bad rap this gent has gotten over his 39 year career, but unless you are an official at any level and at any sport, you really don't have a clue how difficult it is to be a sports official.

Met this NBA Referee as well and found out that he used to live near the SA area in Pipe Creek, Texas.

Reffing 4 basketball games at the Alamo City All-Stars Sportsplex tomorrow afternoon.

Boyfriend is a baseball/softball umpire. Got home 2 weeks ago after umping for 5 weeks in Cooperstown. Was his first year invited....made lots of contacts; made some good friends. Plans on going again next summer.
He is 62 yo...This is his full time job.

That's awesome! I have been a basketball official for the past 7 years and I love it! I too have made a lot of friends and contacts from doing this. I want to continue doing this as long as my body holds up. For me, this is just a part-time job, but I really enjoy it and it helps me get exercise and relieve stress from my full-time job.

Mike doesn't do it for the money....he loves umping. He does come home with pain in his knees and back. I tell him that's HIS OWN fault. He does bases some games BUT mostly he's behind the plate. I've nicknamed him..."Plate Whore" for that reason....even made him a tee shirt!

Looks like I haven't posted here in awhile. Still going strong with my basketball officiating, although I had to go in to have my left eye checked recently. Doc says I have a stem cell deficiency in the eye, causing me to have blurry, hazy vision. Not too good, when you need good vision for this occupation. I hope to fix this issue with some prescribed steroid drops. Otherwise, I would hate to give up something I truly enjoy doing.
