Bring a covered magnet with you when you pick it up. Good way to check how stuffed full of bondo it is.

double check make sure his liability limits are adequate, some states require minimal coverage for Property Damage liability coverage. You just need to make sure his limits are enough to cover your escalating damages to your car.

You are in Virginia right? based on this you should be good for a repair if he has the minimum coverage for PD liability, But remember, your rental car that his coverage is paying for also comes out of his PD liability limits. Having a rental for 6 weeks, its better that they get the best deal possible on that, so they can put the most monies toward your physical damage. Hopefully he has even higher than minimum limits on PD coverage.

Virginia requires the following minimum coverage:
  • Bodily injury/death of one person $25,000
  • Bodily injury/death of two or more persons $50,000
  • Property damage $20,000

That was an '87 Pontiac Gran Am SE. Drunk driver hit me head-on in a curve. I was running 40 mph. The HP officer who investigated estimated he was running approximately 95 when he hit me. I was on my local volunteer rescue squad at that time thus the license plate on the front. It was made of fiberglass. That's why it ended up the way it did. I had only been 4 days finished my Basic EMT class when the accident happened. I was waiting to take my state boards. My class tested out while I was in the hospital. I tested out 9 months later. After getting my results, I waited my one year and went straight to Paramedic school. I worked as a Paramedic for 6 years. BTW, it was a '80 Datsun 280ZX that hit me. He was 2 years older than me and was a minor league baseball player. He was being scouted by the Cinc Reds, Phil A's, and the Pitt Pirates at that time. He was killed. His head punched the windshield. No seatbelt. I was wearing my seatbelt and he pushed my dash in far enough that my chin still struck my steering wheel. I broke my bottom jaw in 6 places, upper jaw in 3 places, my left forearm in 8 places, fractured and dislocated the rail head in my left wrist, had an open fracture of my right tibia (shin bone), broke my right fibula as well as fractured my T9 vertebra in the center of my back. one month in the hospital, 1 week in SICU, 28 1/2 months under Orthopedic surgeon's care, 3 surgeries on my left arm, 2 on my right leg and 2 on my jaws. A lifetime of back and neck trouble. Now I'm getting arthritis in both knees, right ankle, left elbow and left wrist all from my injuries from that accident. A stupid decision made by someone else only takes a split second to ruin, or even end, the life of someone else. I have no pity on anyone who drinks and drives. I personally don't feel the DUI or DWI laws are any where near strict enough. Until they have it affect them, neither will the law makers who make those laws.

I also got in a wreck this past saturday man. My damages are a bit more severe. Only got to put 3k miles on my baby, I think they're going to claim it as a total loss. If your bill is up to 11k and my damage is more severe I can only imagine.
