I absolutely love my V6!! It's plenty quick and as a daily driver...I save money on gas (both quantity used and regular vs premium) I don't doubt for a second that the V8 would knock the doors off more cars...but the v6 is only 1 second slower than last year's V8. It puts down numbers that are more than capable of endless impressive cruising. I have no regrets with the V6 and suspect you wouldn't either...the npp helps it sound like nothing else too! (Although a V8 is in amazing sound). There's no wrong choice in the matter. Enjoy whatever you get..just remember..a V6 isn't "settling". I love mine!!

If you can afford the SS get it. I went V6 and had immediate regret and got the SS two months later.

Also, not sure if creature comforts are of importance to you. If you were to find a loaded 2LT with all the bells and whistles, compared to a base 1SS, you could get more features/tech for your money. But if that doesn't matter much to you, engine power is the main determinant, and you can comfortably afford the difference, you'd probably be kicking yourself if you didn't get a V8. Just keep in mind insurance will be more expensive, and while gas mileage is nearly the same between the two, you need premium for the V8 instead of regular for the V6.

you wont be dissapointed either way. but the v8 will always be the top dog, if i could afford one i would get the v8 in less than a heartbeat. i test drove the SS 5 months after i got my LT. not much difference besides superior handling and the noise. power wise, both throw you back into your seat and the v8 is only a second quicker. however, the v8 has more modding options. you can squeeze more power out than you will ever in the 6. the v6 still got some serious power to play with, trust me when i say its plenty of car for its amount. what really stunned me about the v8 though was the steering.
to those that say the v8 is less practical, thats not completely true. there are some members averaging out 30+ mpg. im getting 17mpg and 25mph highway on my LT. it all really depends on how you drive |

I've had both. V6, then V8. You say you previously had a 2010 V8. Although the Gen6 has many improvements, the six still isn't going to match up with the power of your old V8, head to head. Winter driveability isn't going to be an issue for you. Of course affordability is going to be a big factor, but if you can afford the V8 and still live well within your means, then there's your answer.

If you're going to walk the walk..........
In other words, a muscle car isn't a muscle car without the muscle. I'd hate to have a Challenger pull up next to me at a red light and think "Crap! I only have a V6!

ONLY 1 Second Slower?
I agree with just about everything in this thread except the statement that the V6 is only one second slower. When it comes to cars and 0-60 times that are measured in tenths of a second, one second is significant.

^ I see where the V6 is in the 13s in the qtr. That is as fast and faster than most muscle cars 66-70. Oh but nothing sounds like they did with the big barrel secondary's, loping cam.
Your choice but since you asked, I would go with your budget. 6 if all is close and 8 if you really like and have plenty of budget room??? I think the 6 is not settling as handling etc is just as good if not better? |

The V6 will stay right with, if not beat, most Challengers.

Correct.. If I was a betting man.. I would bet on the V6 Camaro vs any non SRT challenger/Charger.
Challenger 5.7 Hemi R/T C/D TEST RESULTS: Zero to 60 mph: 5.1 sec Zero to 100 mph: 13.0 sec Zero to 130 mph: 24.8 sec Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 5.6 sec Top gear, 30-50 mph: 12.8 sec Top gear, 50-70 mph: 12.7 sec Standing ¼-mile: 13.7 sec @ 103 mph |

Heck, if the Challenger is the 5.7, the Camaro V6 could probably give it a decent run for its money....advantage to the Challenger of course

I was initally considering a V6, but I'm only inclined to buy a V8 at this point for the following reasons:
1) Fuel economy is nearly the same (17/28 for the V8, 19/28 for the V6). I drive mostly highway, so that closes the gap even further. The only real difference in fuel cost is buy premium vs. regular. 2) A V8 model only costs $3-5,000 more than a comparably equipped V6 model, depending on options. People are getting 2SS models with MRC and NPP in the $38-40k range right now. A 2LT V6 equipped the same way is in the $33-35k range. If you can truly afford a V6, the V8 is very likely in your budget, too. 3) I like the front end of the V8 better, but that's my personal opinion. |
