I've watched this before, your title is incorrect, it should read- Don't waste money on premium gas unless your owner's manual recommends it.

The only 6th gen Camaro that get away with regular gas is the V6. The I4 & V8 call for premium per the owner's manual.

sure you can run lower grade gas... the computer just dials back the power to compensate... so why did you buy a Camaro then?

And decreases fuel economy.... I've always wondered if putting in regular for a car that recommends premium would wipe out the savings as a result of that decreased fuel economy.

These cars should be flex fuel from the factory. Localy premium is $2.60 and e85 is $1.60. You are money ahead even after the loss of mileage and have more power running e85.

My DD Camry 4cyl does get better gas mileage with 93 in the tank. Thought I was crazy but I verified it with a consistent run to a client about 70 miles away over the course of a month.

For 4 weeks straight I needed to go a client up in Wisconsin. I would leave early in the morning to avoid traffic and come back mid afternoon to do the same. I drove consistently at 74 mph (1 under the 10 over rule) with the cruise set. At that speed on that road the car would get 32 to 33 mpg on 87 and 35-36 mpg on 93.

Thinking I was crazy I I switched back on my 4th week and sure enough, right back to 32-33 mpg.

So 1.31/liter is 4.95/gallon (Canadian) which is 3.83 (US) at todays exchange rate of 1.29.

I paid 3.46 in N. California the other day, but have seen it as low as $3 at some gas stations the past week. For Premium (91). But California has mega high gas taxes added in.

We sell produce to Canada and I feel for you Canadians. You guys get screwed on the exchange rate. It is 1.29 right now, but has been running 1.35+. You basically get taxed 29-35% over US prices before the product even crosses the border.

If you take the exchange rate out, 3.83 (assuming 1.30 exchange rate) equates to 2.95. So gas prices in Canada and US are about the same (without the exchange rate) and not taking into account gas taxes applied by the US, Canada or states.
