Just thought I would pass the info along. For those without MotorTrend on demand, you should see the new episode in about a month on youtube.
pretty frustrated with motortrend on demand. I signed up when I saw this being filmed on johnny liebermans twitter. I cant find it anywhere on the site.

Can you link to it?

SS 1LE is the equivalent of the GT/PP, both are up optioned performance package on the V8 model car with NO separate model designation as its not a stand alone model like the GT350 or the Z/28.

Yeeesh.. I mouth dropped when I looked it up the first time.

I've yet to see one in person though and I've seen 918 Weissachs, a new 488, a Ferarri GTO, multiple McLarens (even an SLR in orange), an SLS AMG, a Carerra GT, a freakin' CCXR of all things, a Plymouth Superbird and a handful of other rarities.. and still no GT350R. H*ll, there was even an F40 out at one of the local shows.

Has anyone seen any floating around in the wild anywhere? I've seen plenty of GT350s.
the builder I am working with on my camaro is also building a gt350r - and I lined up next to one at the track recently.

Look for the MT Daily and go to the Fridays in the Garage show for 7/15/16 with the GTS in the garage, they talk about the LS times of the cars.

As mustang fans keep saying. The 1LE isn't a special car. It's not a new or sub model, it's just an option box you can add to a standard SS. The GT TP is the same thing. GM just did so far better with their track oriented option box than Ford did (as has been the case for 1LE). It's being compared to something that was purposely designed to be a track monster.
If ford didn't want the TP to be compared to the Camaro track oriented car, they probably shouldn't have named the option "track pack".

The model vs. model layout is still SS to GT, 1LE to GT-TP, ZL1 to GT500, and Z/28 to GT350(r).

I know some of those cars don't exist yet, but thems still the competitors in the arena. The GT500 and Z/28 are coming at some point, and when they do. We'll see where the direct competion lies.

SS = street car just as GT
1LE = "track oriented" street car, just as GT-TP
Z/28 = naturally aspirated all out track monster, just as the GT350R (the non r fits this category as well, it's just not a well thought out placement)
ZL1 = boosted all around masterpiece, just as the GT500

The fact that the 1LE is a better track oriented car than the GT-TP (and apparently the non r 350) is just gravy. The fact that the TP is selling a ton is telling me that Mustang buyers are paying attention. Because really, that's what a standard GT would need to even keep close to a (non track oriented) SS.

So, the SS 1LE has many items the GT PP has, but in better form. Or the buyer has to pay for or can't get...

Suede and leather Recaros, HUD, dual, large reconfigurable screens, Apple Car Play, Android Car Play, Prox key, driver modes, adjustable exhaust, more suede trim, etc, etc.

I sure hope so...will show how a car starting at $14,000 less can have better performance. Even when compared to a car in a category above it.

They didn't call it a track pack, they called it a performance pack.

The only Mustang currently with a "track pack" is the GT350.

The last normal Mustang to have a "track pack" is was the 2014 S197 GT.

Which had less content then the current performance pack...it's all the same sh*t, just marketing. Heck, the S197 track pack, with nearly the same content was called the Brembo pack from 2011-2012...

You can call it whatever you like but if the name say's GT or SS on the fender, then its just a optional performance package.

Sorry, you're right. It's still the same thing as the old track pack though... better brakes, wheels/tires, suspension, cooling, seating. So how is this not the same as the upgrades to the SS by ticking that 1LE box?

By the way, the 1LE official name is 1LE Performance Package. So again, I'd say the SS with a 1LE Performance Package, is a direct competitor to the GT with Performance Package both in dollars (about 44K for the SS1LE vs. 42K for the GTPP with recaros (closest i could come to a direct compare)). And in general trim levels.

Don't forget the PDR, something else they don't get

Sorry, but the GT PP competes more with the SS. 1LE competes with the GT350.

How can the SS's competitor be the GT when the SS is far faster than even the GT PP. It's like Al O said, the performance is baked in. Every SS comes with the "performance pack" standard.

Mustang fans can say what they want, they can't stand what the 1LE has done to them.

Go read any mustang forum where a 1LE discussion has occurred. It's Hillarious how butthurt they have been over these cars. Especially when the 1LE bested the Boss 302's.

When the 17 hits and wipes the floor with their GT350 they are going to lose their collective minds. Wait and see.
