LT-1 weak links? Do we know the upper limits on stock bottom end?

This seems like the right place to ask.

I'm completely amazed by the LT-1 in stock form...it looks like the ECM is a tough nut to crack but presumably that won't be a problem forever.

It seems like it's still fairly early in the tuning game for this motor. Do we know what the upper limits are? What breaks first? Any help coming from the aftermarket?

Thanks!
Mike

The LT1 in the 2016/17 camaro is essentially the same as the one in the corvette, which they have had longer to play with.

The stock bottom end tends to be pretty good up to about 650rwhp. The fuel system on the Camaro is good up to about 600rwhp. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but upgrading the injectors basically need upgrading the fuel pump system, which is driven off the camshaft, so upgrading the fuel system gets real expensive real fast.

The most cost effective hp upgrade is a supercharger and most of the kits get you to around 580-600rwhp.
Going NA you end up spending almost as much and get to about 550rwhp. Bolt ons do almost nothing $/hp wise.

The weak point of the LT1 is the pistons. In an ls3 you could push up into the 700's with meth and proper fueling and live for a while. the LT1 ring lands will give up the ghost at the 700whp mark. I wouldn't let this be a determining factor though. The engine should be built to handle more power with better rods and pistons at 650ish whp.

The HPDI fuel pump is the first part of the fuel system to give up the ghost at about 600-610 RWHP, not sure what happens after that point cause I haven't made enough power yet to run out of fuel yet since the pump has been upgraded - but I'm working on that.

Interesting comment on the NA though - and seemingly very true. I recently had a chance to do a few roll-ons with a 16 NA LT1 SS (CAI, heads, cam, intake, headers, exhaust) that dyno'd within 2 RWHP of my PD Maggie. The results were interesting, when the NA car was at redline it was a dead even match between the cars, but with every shift he lost at least a half a car length. Power under the curve is every bit as important as that peak number...
