Rotofab received

First off... a quick thank you to Rotofab for getting the intake here in time for some weekend testing. I am very impressed with the design and construction now having seeing the parts in person. There was definitely a significant investment put in to the design and tooling to create this kit.

Hermine finally hit my area so the next 24 hours are going to be wet. Once the weather clears this weekend I will be installing my AEM WB and collecting all of the pertinent data on the stock intake. Right now my MAF transfer function is calibrated. In other words my curve is 100% correct for my car versus the factory curve that may have had 1 or 2% error in places. I'm going to utilize the calibrated curve as my baseline. After I have that data I will install the Rotofab unit and measure the same set of data. I will show the AFR error introduced (if any) and then show what the calibrated curve will look like for the Rotofab intake vs the calibrated curve for the stock intake.

This approach will eliminate all other variables and get right down to determining what the intake is going to do to your AFR across the range compared to the stock intake. I will do this in the afternoon so there is minimal weather variance to account for.

I don't have an ETA on dyno testing but I will call RPM on Tuesday and see if they can fit me in somewhere in the next week or two.

Tim

The dyno is going to be key as that seems to be the only place where COT is being seen.

Nice sunny days here and according to Amazon, I get my tuner this evening. My car has no previous tune, so I will do runs with all products and share the results.

Thanks guys looking forward to both of the results.

Myself I'll be doing some baseline 1/8 hits tomorrow stock and with the Roto-Fab installed.

I'll be interested in seeing the logs. If you want to simulate the dyno just go to 5th as early in the RPM band as it will allow and go WOT. That will be far more load on the car than the Dynojet is placing on it.

Awesome! I look forward to seeing the data & analysis from your testing. Thanks for taking the time to do this!

I would really be shocked if there was not a lot of MAF error with this kit as well as with CAI & Mishimoto units. Not just on the torque curve, but everywhere else on the map. There's a reason GM is offering a tune with this MAF tune corrected to match the hardware.

Quick update... I will post specifics later tonite.

So I would like to say great job to Rotofab. I am very impressed with not only the construction quality of their intake I am impressed at how accurate they kept the MAF output. The variation on AFR was sub 1% across the RPM band. This was data collected in MAF only mode in the ECM which really isolates the AFR from being influenced by other variables. I did 3rd gear runs (A8) from 1500 RPMs up to redline. The stock vs RF runs were within a couple hours of each other with minimal weather variation.

On the power front I was not on a dyno today but the one area that hints at a definite improvement is the MAP. I stays about 1 kPa higher across the RPM range over the stock intake. So as of right now I do expect to see a power increase of some level on the dyno.

Here is a snapshot of the runs for each. You will see the commanded EQ (white) and the WB (green) lines. If the MAF output is not skewed they should sit on top of one another. The Rotofab intake did NOT upset the MAF calibration in any meaningful way. I am very impressed and to be honest did not expect this.

Rotofab did an EXCELLENT job keeping the MAF from getting screwed up.
