Clutch replacement @ 5800 Miles

Everyone has probably read of all my woes with this car. It has been in the shop since July 11th.

New Steering Rack
Repainted Deck Lid

And now they are replacing the clutch. Apparently they think the hesitation in my car is caused by "stretched clutch springs". This is the conclusion after GM Engineering Support reviewed the symptoms with them. I tried to look up a picture of the clutch online as I'm told it's "special". I'm not even sure what springs would stretch. The damping springs compress not stretch.

In a kind of far fetched way I can see where they are coming from. The hesitation is more prevalent in higher gears at lower rpms (where you would expect a failing clutch to first develop symptoms). But there are things that bother me about this:

1. The car didn't do this when I brought it in for service. I noticed it after I got it back. I'm a car guy, and ex-professional full service mechanic. I would have known this was happening in my own car.
2. The car has 5800 miles on it the majority of which are highway miles (80 miles per day for work are highway) and includes a trip from NC to NY to Canada, back around NY, then back home. Literally thousands of those miles are cruise control miles.
3. I know how to drive a manual and when to shift, and I do.

Anyone have experience/issues with these "special" clutches?

The only silver lining to this is if I get the car back today or tomorrow and the problem is still there I have a very strong case for lemon law....which gives me the very strong urge to wait it out for the ZL1 ... cause it's true what they say after all ... you always want more.

Got my car back and it seems to be fixed. No more hesitation!

Tech report says the flywheel was imbalanced. They replaced the flywheel and the clutch.

Finally!!!

Mostly good. Steering wheel is more than a little off center now but an alignment wont have my car stuck in the shop for a week so no big deal. Everything else looks perfect. So glad to have my car back!

The clutch set is special in that they suck. They cause a lot of small drivability issues and are heavy due to the use of a dual mass flywheel with twin discs.
I figured that out and worked with CenterForce to develop their new Twin disc, No more dual mass flywheel, 17 lbs lighter and better feel and more holding power. Pedal pressure is the same just smoother throughout.
I've had a lot of issues with mine, chevy has been useless, 45 days in for warranty repairs, since I started figuring out the issues its a much nicer car.

when you say heasatation what exactly do you mean. i feel like when i drive with hard acel that it feels like my clutch hits the flywheel and bounces off it and then grabs. ive driven many sports cars and ive never had this strange sensation before. i was just starting to think it was normal

Your sounds like a different problem than mine. My car literally felt like it had a misfire at low rpms and felt like it was missing power up top too but didn't really feel the hesitation above 3000 rpms. It would hesitate almost like the clutch had slipped just a little (or a misfire) and when this happens repeatedly the shifter looked like it was having a seizure. My problem was most noticeable at low rpms under acceleration.

If i have anymore problems with this clutch setup I may give the DYAD a try. It definitely sounds like a solid upgrade. 17lbs less rotating mass must be really noticeable when accelerating!
