Removing Mishimoto Catch Can

Was reading a lengthy thread over on Camaro5 about a guy who's warranty repair was denied because they blamed his catch can for the failure. After reading that I decided to see how easy it would be to return to stock. Just in case. Ouch. Can't figure out how to remove the Mishimoto fittings on the throttle body and engine. If there are buttons to push I can't find them. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks.

The problem with this world is stupidity.
I'm not saying there should be penalties for stupidity,
but why don't we just take the warning labels off everything and let the problem solve itself.

Absolutely. If warranty rejection is a concern for anyone leave your drive train stock and you will be safe. But I think changing the bow ties should be okay.

As for me seeing all the oil in the can I think I would rather keep this oil out of the engine. My only concern about that is could the design of the catch can actually pull more oil in that would have been injected by the engine? Then I should take my catch can off also.

I don't want to take it off. Just want to know I can remove it if I have to take the car in for repairs.

Oh I see. Makes sense. I will say this, my ZL1 was bought back by GM due to unfixable Stabilitrac problems. It has been sitting on the dealers lot for 9 months now. LOL This car was visited by GM engineers. The ZL1 had a catch can and an amp upgrade.

But in the 4 months it took to make things happen with GM lawyers and Chevy engineering involved never once did the topic of the catch can come up. I think that thread you read involved a really jerky dealer. You could call the dealer and say, "I was thinking of adding a catch can to my Camaro, will that be a problem?" Then you know what to do.

I have heard from the dealer where I bought my car (a different dealer than where I service my Camaro, long story) that there is some sort of toe rod fix available. Maybe help with wheelhop? If this is true I will take my Camaro in with the catch can on and play dumb. It is not hard for me to do that. Just ask my wife.

It mostly depends on your dealership with aftermarket upgrades. Most of the time instead of doing the work they want to blame a aftermarket part. I would find another dealership if that happens before I start removing things. The Mishimoto catch can has OEM like push connectors on it for quick install and uninstall. Just push in on the gray ring and pull and they will come off.

I'm going to check with some friends and acquantinces about any issues they may have had with our local dealer. A couple of them have vettes so they may have some insight.

Ahhhhhhhhh. Got it. Top one popped right off. Don't know why I was having so much trouble last night. Was essentially doing the same thing. Oh well. Didn't mess with the bottom fitting. That one will be a bitch to get off with my hands. Have to find a small person to help out.

Thanks for the input.

I'll be doing the same thing. The can is easy enough to remove there's no sense in taking a risk.

Your welcome! You can take a screwdriver and press in on that clip from the side like you would with your hand and pull off. It is a tighter fit there with big hands.

Taped up to prevent scratching or puncturing anything.

Did you install your catch can yourself? I'm pretty sure the releases are the same as the stock ones where you just push the tab in and pull

Yes I installed it myself. When I was messing with it last night I couldn't see the releases. The entire fitting is dark gray so the button blended in and I was probably pressing the wrong place. The light in the front of my garage isn't that great and I didn't want to hook up the halogen work lights just to experiment. Gave up until it was daylight. So after reading the post by Hyper1SS I went out this morning and opened the garage door. Located the button on the upper fitting and pressed it. Fitting pulled right off. Amazing what you can do when you can see what you are doing. Had no problem with the stock fittings since the buttons are white and easy to see.
