Rear gears on SS with A8
Anyone out there changed the gears on the SS A8 yet? The factory is 2.77, curious if anyone has changed that to like a 3:42 or 3:55. I know it would rob full economy, but would it make it faster off the line, or just roast the tires more?

Not only will you burn the tires 1st and 2nd but 1st will be a really short gear. |

1st and 2nd gear are pretty stout on the A8; you would definitely want wider/stickier rubber in the rear before changing the ring and pinion. If I do end up going 305's in the back, I will start considering swapping out for the M6 pumpkin gears. Then it will be on like donkey kong, because then that means the bug has fully bit and I'll be doing motor mods in no time to chase NA 500rwhp daily driver mode.
Intake, throttle body, intake manifold, cam, heads, long tubes, 3" H-pipe and a great tune. Sadly, it would require even more loss of MPG because I don't think anyone will retain AFM with a cam. But for the same price, it may just push me to do a blower and call it a day. Decisions, decisions... |
