Yes the Mobil M1-113 is a match for the stock Delco PF64 on the V8, but it is slightly physically bigger than the stock filter.
I picked up a 76mm/14 flute oil filter cap wrench because it fit the Mobil1 and I was concerned the factory may have over-tightened the original filter. Only to find out that cap wrench was too big for the original AC/Delco when I went under the car. Fortunately it came off by hand with a little effort and trash talking ("who's your Daddy!!!", etc...). Just a FYI for any others who try to be prepared for life's little frustrations.

Just wondering why you all are not taking advantage of the Chevrolet free services for the first two years. I think that's the smart thing should there be any warranty issues. Just curious.

If you keep your receipts from an oil change there's no problem with warranty. Many of us don't want to go near a dealership with our cars because we've seen what happens for simple oil changes with dings, overfills, Rash wheels and the like. I've seen it for 20 years. I'll do my own changes. I don't give a hoot about the free stuff.

I also try to avoid the dealer. Last time I took my 5th Gen Camaro in, the dealer promptly tore a chunk of aluminum off of the lip one of my brand new aftermarket wheels while putting the car up on the lift! They made good on it and replaced it with a new wheel, but only because I saw it and pointed it out. If it had gone unnoticed until I was home I doubt the outcome would have been the same. |

I have seen it twice over the years. Always good to check to make sure the old one left with its filter.

I've been buying new cars for more years than I care to mention and I have never had a bad experience with the dealership service department. When they've had it overnight, they park it inside. I have a dash cam that's not readily noticeable and I review it after each visit and haven't seen a thing out of the ordinary. My cars are pristine and spotlessly clean when I take them in and that seems to draw respect from those who move it around. No problems at all with the dealership.
I can understand those who have had problems reluctant to trust dealerships, though.

One time when I changed the oil I didn't pay enough attention and the bottom grommet remained in place. I noticed it was more difficult to tighten down the lid but didn't think anything about it. Fortunately no harm resulted, but when the next oil change came around I was taking my time for a change and saw the grommet still at the bottom of the filter holder after removing filter. Never rushed an oil change after that! |

Do they specify torque spec for the filter as well, or do we just tighten it by feel?

It can happen if you don't lube the gasket, I suspect, or just bad luck. The gasket can get stuck to the block. It is rare but it happened to me one time about 20 years ago and I learned to always double check that the gasket was removed prior to installing the new filter. Otherwise, enjoy a GIGANTIC mess (or worse if you don't double check for leaks after the oil change).
