Can't control "reading lamps"???

OK, maybe I'm stupidly missing something, but I want to be able to NOT have the overhead lights come on when I open the door. The 5th gen has a three position switch (On/Off/On when door open) that I always kept off. I've searched the manual and the menus and can't find anything - anyone know how to control these "reading lamps"?

Obviously I know you can turn them on / off with the button next to the light, but I want them to stay off when I open the doors.

Mostly I don't like everyone else to be able to see in my car at night when getting in or out, and with all the other lighting we can see fine without the overheads. They also wash out the lighted rocker plates somewhat.

Anyway - any help?

Nope. Might be a work around, but from what I've read in the manual, they come on when the door opens, period. No option to change that.

Thanks. I was really hoping I was just missing some switch or setting. When I first started driving I would just pop the bulb out of the dome light
