Thoughts on Stainless Works catback

Anyone running the Stainless Works catback would you recommend them or are there things you dislike about them? I'm looking to order one very soon and can use some input from those of you that already own one.

It will be going on my 2017 2SS M6 with dual mode exhaust. Yes, I am looking at the dual mode catback they sell. Thanks for any help.

Have you heard this exhaust in person yet? I'm from Pittsburgh and so is Garys16ss and we both have the full SW exhaust, but I don't have the dual mode and I'm not sure if Garys16ss has dual mode or not.

we have done it and it sounds really nice imo. Done a few different setups and stainless works and ARH have been my favorite so far. If you need some pricing just let me know as we do a lot of sales w/ them.

I haven't heard it in person. I spent a few hours with my wife online watching videos of the different exhaust setups for the gen6. SW was by far my favorite sound. Other systems had too much bass and almost sounded like they were under water.

I can say for sure it is louder than the npp exhaust. Look for comparison videos on YouTube. Stainless Works posted a great one with several of their setups and a stock npp setup. They even showed the decibel levels for all. That was what really made up my mind.

Here's my two cents on a SW NPP catback. I just put mine on a few weeks ago and have about 500 miles on it now or so.

Is it louder than stock NPP? Yes...and no. Overall its louder over NPP, but at times (depending on throttle and valve position) its seems just a tiny bit louder than stock NPP.

With the valves closed, it cut's the treble and clarity of the sound. So it sounds a little bassy and boomy even. When they are open its restores the treble and add's a few dB.

If you're looking to retain the dynamic and noticeable sound differences between the modes, then the cat back isn't gonna make you happy. The differences between modes are VERY small now. Tour/Stealth is maybe a 2-3db quieter over Sport (which i use as my baseline everyday mode). Track is barely noticeably louder. And pulling the NPP fuse, basically keeps the volume the same all the time, but you hear the treble's and clarity of the exhaust 24/7. But again it defeats the purpose of NPP.

You do lose the snap, crackle and pop with the catback. It's still there and can be heard at times, but the volume of the catback drowns out the crackling and popping.

There is a slight drone at 1800-2000 rpms, depending on throttle position. If you're cruising in 4th, little bit of throttle only and the valves are closed, you do get a little drone. Not to bad though. Go lower or higher in the RPM's ad it goes away quickly.

I really wanted to get a video of the catback to help out and also for my own curiosity...but i haven't had the time yet.

That's really odd that you lose the snap, crackle, pop. I would figure it would increase with the removal of the rear cats. Just ordered from Phastek so i'll find out soon I guess.

Yeah, you don't lose it per say. They just get drowned out a bit. I still hear them, they just arent as pronounced as they were with the stock NPP system.

No Problem.

When you do get the system and install it, some of the directions are a little off. I made a few notes if you're doing it yourself.

1. Take note of the NPP valves before you take the motors off them. But most times they will always be open .

2. Install the NPP valve wire extension on the drivers side valve. I think the directions say passengers side, but the drivers side needs it more.

3. My stock right o2 sensor is piece of crap. When reinstalling it into the new SW system, triple check the wires in the connector are fully seated. I got a CEL the next day and found the wires/pins popping of of the connector.

4. Have a small sawzall or dremel with a metal cutting blade ready. You need to remove the spot weld on the stock left cat pipe thats holding the stock clamp in place. There was no mention of this anywhere until i got the system and read the directions. They dont say how even....just... "remove it".

I might try to get a small video tonight...if I can find my GoPro or my phones camera works for a few minutes.

Found a few seconds on my dash cam where you can hear the exhaust - sorry about the background radio noise.

Sounds great from what I can hear. I ordered from Phastek yesterday so it should be here soon.

Thanks for all the info everyone. You all really helped me make this decision.
