Car is consuming oil

So my car just finished its 2000 mile oil consumption test and it burned 3/4 of a quart of oil. My service advisor says that is tolerable per GM. That means my car would be nearly 3 quarts low everytime i get an oil change and I really dont want to add oil to a new car. What should I do? I called GM and they are talkig to the dealer but I dont think they will do anything about it.

The word around here is that is to be expected during break in.

My car never used any oil.

My car has been in the shop for just over a month now and they gave me a '17 Camaro RS loaner and I can smell oil burning from outside the car after I shut it off. It is a very faint smell, and I haven't checked the oil or looked to see if there are any leaks but I don't see any oil on my garage floor.

Everyones mileage seems to vary on this topic, but I would say if it's still using oil by your second oil change something isn't right.

You're probably not smelling engine oil burning. It's probably the chemical coating from the exhaust. GM dealership told me it was for rust preventative or something like that. I don't recall exactly what he told me. A GM mechanic and I were following a brand new cruize and smoke was coming from under the car as it drove down the road. Totally normal. I've seen it several times from new cars.

I put on a catch can at around 4-5k miles. I'm now at 7k miles. I opened up the catch can and had quite a bit of oil too. I'd definitely consider the mishimoto catch can to keep that oil out of your engine
