Run flat repair?

So I woke up this morning and was heading to work when my Camaro gave me a low tire pressure warning. My left rear wheel was at 40 kpa. By the time I left work 9 hours later it was reading 0. I took it to a gas station to fill it back up but by the time I got home it was almost at 0 again. This is my first experience with run flats. Is this something that the dealer can repair or will they have to replace the whole tire? Are tires covered under the warranty? Would they have to get the same tires or would they just throw any similar sized tire on there?

They can be repaired in some circumstances. I guess it depends how bad it is and where on the tire it is. I was on a small vacation around 100 miles from home and woke up on a Sunday morning to find my tire was down to 20psi. I drove to the gas station to add air and drove it home. When I went to Discount Tire the next day they checked and said yes it is repairable and used a patch/plug and sent me on my way for free. That was in February I believe. It's been fine ever since

I recently had my rear driver's side tire start reporting 0 PSI. I called around and everyone said that run flats shouldnt be repaired, and nobody had any in stock. Took it back to the dealer and they put it up on a lift and it ended up having a gash about 2-3 inches in the tread, had to order me a new tire. Luckily I bought coverage and the tire ended up being free ($450 installed otherwise).

My right rear picked up a nail or something about a month ago, right before July 4th weekend. There was no way I wasn't driving my car through the long weekend. We just plugged it and drove. Still haven't had the new tires we bought for the rear mounted and haven't had any trouble. If you knew how I drive, that would sound much more impressive. I hit at least 130 every day, usually closer to 150. And I take of like my ass is on fire.

I am thoroughly enjoying my new car.

Question; is the new car thoroughly enjoying you... If it could only talk... Oh shit; here he comes again.

She*. And if it could talk it would just be bragging to the other Camaro's about how often and hard it was ridden.

About 5 minutes from our shop there's a "state highway", most of it is just regular road, yellow line, one lane each side. But at the end/beginning, depending on which direction you're going, it turns into a 2 lane each side, divided "highway". Not sure how long of a stretch it is, I suck at estimating that shit. But it's straight as an arrow with a few dips, and when I hit it at that magical time of day, it's dead empty, not a single car but me, and I'll run it in both directions. Gotten up over 160 a few times, but that was seriously pushing my luck with having enough road to slow back down. I usually hit about 140-145 and call it good enough. It really depends on what kind of day I'm having. My husband has commented, at great bodily risk, that I get cranky if I don't get at least a semi-good run in everyday.

But to come back to the threads original topic....even driving like that, a regular, professional grade plug has held up for over a month already. I do check tire pressure on the dic multiple times a day, and always right before I know I'll be pushing it. If I didn't get my flat at the end of the day before a long weekend I totally would have taken it to our tire guy and had the patch/plug combo done. And I do recommend that to anyone that asks. Guess it's a case of, Do as I say, not as I do.

I've been hesitant to get the new rears mounted for fear my rims might get damaged. Our tire guy was a little bummed we don't plan on bringing the whole car in, just the wheels and tires. We've been so busy lately, all 3 lifts have been in almost constant use and I'm NOT putting my baby on jack stands. Next time I can leave the car on a lift long enough to get it done, without making our employees lives harder(that's key for me, our guys work hard and deserve our appreciation and whatever we can do to make at least their work lives easier),it'll get done.

Nice, once if my runflat gets damaged.. Michelin Pilot SS here they come! I feel you on the rims tho, mounting 35 series isn't cakewalk like 50 series.

But hey, for your rears if it holds up leave it.

So they ended up fixing my tire for $31. Turns out there was a nail in it. Beats having to pay $400+ for a replacement. Although they completely dismissed the exhaust rattle issue.
