Pretty sure I remember there being a shortage of the A8 for the Hellcat initially (since it's a beefier version than used in other Dodge applications).

Interesting. I did not know that. The ZL1 will sell regardless. It's the thought that by not having an automatic at all during launch that a segment of buyers would be forced to wait.

Magic 8 Ball says they only have enough A10s to put in the yellow ZL1s so that means I'm ok.

Sorry Hyper Blue fans. Lol

There was also a 1+ year delay on Hellcats with a sunroof.

Anyone that ordered one with a sunroof didn't get it until the second model year.

That's great. I don't want a sunroof, cup holders, [no eating or drinking in the Z], an ashtray [does anyone even have those anymore] a manual transmission or a V6 so I should be good to go. Lol

You remember right. The Hellcat launch was my first exposure to the ineptitude of the Dodge supply chain management system. At various times production was held up due to lack of A8 transmission, black hoods, sunroofs, certain wheels, and superchargers. There were probably more snafus, those were just the ones I can recall.

Wow, that's a lot of key components. I would not want to be in a position to have to answer to that. A black hood? Seriously? Unreal.

Definitely agree there was some weird ones in there, but at the same time they clearly underestimated demand. And I think that highlighted the fact that Dodge simply does not have the ability to pump out hi-po cars like Ford and GM can. They do fine with regular RTs, but not the Scat Packs or SRT models.

People are upset about a muscle car not being available with an automatic transmission? Now this is truly a sad state of affairs.

If the ZL1 was a muscle car your comment would still be...short sighted.

Even if I could find the words to explain the stigma that automatics in muscle/pony/sports cars had at one time, you guys wouldn't truly understand it. Bobby gets it, though.

And it's not even that the AT isn't going to be available here. Just not right away, or is that really just a case of not soon enough for AT-equipped Z's to be among the first to hit the streets? Cry me a river.

I'm not sure what Bobby gets unless of course it's people irritated and not because his opinion is contradictory to that of many others besides myself. It has more to do with making comments that are based more on personal preference and emotions rather than facts and established norms. It's a very general statement that implies that true muscle cars shouldn't have automatic transmissions. Give me a brake. 3rd post and a sign of things to come? Time will tell.
