Without intentionally sounding too ignorant, can I ask someone to explain what the time sink is for developing/manufacturing a V6 cold air intake? I do have trouble understanding how we're in August and still don't have this 'first step' performance part for our cars. I'd appreciate a rough overview.

For a company to go out, and let's say spend 5 grand, for the tooling, and testing of one cad design, which may need tweaking, or a redesign if it doesn't improve over stock, what's gonna be their profit margin at the end? Even if sold for 400$each to recoup 5K $ would mean they need to sell roughly 12, but really 13 intakes to break over that 5k margin. Now...fast forward to the SS community. They're garunteed to buy parts. So there's no worry there. The turbo4 community, the majority of buyers plan to tune since modding is a bit easier with a boosted cars. So they mostly are grunted buyers. Enter the v6 community. More people from my knowledge on the camaro and even back to owning a charger will post and claim they want this and that and this but NEVER BUY ANYTHING. they wanna see someone else do it first, they wanna wait till process drop, basically the I'm on a budget bs, and can't afford ANYTHING. THIS IS A HUGE REASON, why most companies DO NOT jump on the v6 mods very quickly. Most times they wait to see a few years of the platform out and if there's enough buyers of said platform, then they make parts, cause then there's more of a chance the parts will be bought. This might offend some, but it's factual truth. Performance companies will go for their money makers before catering to the tire kickers and skeptics.

My dealer has the GM intake listed now. Shows as NEW performance accessory. It was not there before.

No, it just shows the picture. But none of their items have any details. I was checking for the tail lamps when I noticed it. I am still wanting to use my accessories cert.

Thanks for breaking that down, I hadn't considered the market aspect. I appreciate it.

The wait for a CAI for the V6 is ridiculous. The 2017 models are rolling out and we still don't have a CAI. Seen many posts from different companies saying they are almost ready but that was months ago and still no word. When the first one is on the market it is going to sell rather well no matter what the skeptics say. Got my money in hand and it goes to the first reliable company that makes one. Who wants it?
