So Backeddy, you probably have more experience at the track than just about everyone here, what is your honest opinion at this point? What do you like and dislike about each of the cars on your list, why are they on your list, and what do you think you'd get if you had to choose right now at this point. If you don't want a 1LE, why or why not? I'd like to hear your opinion since you have track experience and most people on forums don't ever drive their cars at the extreme limit of their cars potential. I'm also curious what you thought about the auto A8 SS at the track, performance wise, how do you think it would do with just better tires and MRC?

The cars on my list from what i have seen and instructed in at the track and of course those that appeal for personal reasons (the the 2011/12 boxster Spyder is a great example of a beautiful car that is also capable). But also note from my list the glaring "great track car" that is absent...the GTR and the Z06. Why? the GTR is incredibly fast and handles it with the best of them, BUT the car does everything for you....I TRIED to get a 2015 out of shape on the worst turn (#3) at laguna...nope, then turn 6 (even on the awful apex marker) nope, then tried to go flat out through the corkscrew...no problem, the car will sort it out. So in the end it was NO FUN. The Z06 is not on here because it is by far the most wrecked car I see at the track...They are unstable and I am not interested in scattering 100K worth of fiberglass down the wall after turn 11.

I Tracked the A8 SS and the GT350 within a few days of each other and the GT350 was much faster for the limited number of laps I was allowed on the BCA (borrowed car agreement) for the cars. I absolutely LOVED the A8 and it would destroy a manual on a track like Laguna IF IT DIDN'T get hot!!!!! Is there cooling that will solve that? Maybe...will it void your warranty: Definitely(at least with the dealers here). IF I could get a 1LE with an A8 or A10, I would order it now! I won't be buying a ZL1 no matter what though, because of the heat soak issue at the track, they are one lap hero's and I have personally never seen one that did not run hot and lose 100hp by the 4th lap.

So why the cars I chose...simple, they are affordable to track and all are very very fast....yes the Porsche's cost a little more, but I have never seen a PDK go down at the track and with 18-19" tires there are lots of choices and even more so for the brakes. I also think the 2011/12 Spyder will retain a large portion of it's value due to limited numbers. I would go get one, but I have a problem with buying a 2011 over a 2017....that is a Loooooong time in this area of technology

In the end, it will be the Spyder or the 1le....it all depends on price and warranty. If the 1le comes in at 45-47k and has a full track warranty, the shopping for a new track car will be over. if it's 49k and warranty is all lawyer like I will get a syder (I have run 1:42's in the porsche too....so it flies!)

"I would also like to see the A8 or A10 in a 1LE if you could keep it cool enough. For me the warranty is a big plus. I wonder if the 1LE will get the A10 in 2018? If that was a possibility, I'd wait another year for it."...NCSD

A lot of people agree with you.

Are you talking about the C6 Z06 or the C7 Z06. You mention $110K but I just wanted to clarify and if you could expand on their instability.

Anything to add about the ZL1 and sustained high performance running?

Sorry for the hijack.

Probst said the Z06 was a handful and he's a pro driver. Beavis and butthead from MT said it was scary and dangerous.

lol yep exactly. The z06-z07 really is a handful and honestly the times I have taken it out... it can be dangerous and scary, but one hell of a machine for sure!

Yes I agree. I have seen the youtube video and several others. It seems the consensus is that the C7 Z06 has more performance than can ever be used on the street ( or back roads). This may draw more people to the LT4 drivetrain. But on the other hand the point that was p brought up in one review, if you aren't planning on racing the Z06 you are probably buying too much car for your needs.

But I would like to hear the OP expand on his comment about the Z06, if he has more to say.

Back to the original question, why not consider a '14 - '15 Corvette? Same drivetrain as the SS Camaro while several hundred pounds lighter.

Because its more expensive and slower around a track than a 1LE (even with Z51 package)

Yes I can guarantee you that when MT best drivers car publishes their 2016 Best Drivers Car competition you will see the 1LE run a faster lap time than the Z51 by enough of a margin for it to not be considered a fluke.

Puts it right in the 5th Gen Z/28 territory
