Happy with my Dealership

So I've had my car for a few months. I couldn't follow the 1500 mile break in. I took it easy for about 500 miles and have driven like I normally would since. I'm now at 1800 miles and made an appointment to have my oil changed. I was told that since my oil life wasn't at 20% or below that Chevrolet wouldn't cover the cost. I complained a little but whatever, I wanted the oil changed. They asked me if I wanted semi-synthetic or full, I told them Mobil 1 full synthetic as that's what I use in all my vehicles, also confirmed that it would get a ACDelco oil filter. Since this car takes 10qts I fully expected to pay $120+ for the service. They asked if I'd like my car detailed (they actually do a really good job unlike most dealers) so I said sure.

I went to pick the car up later, they told me that even though Chevrolet wouldn't cover the oil change, they didn't feel that it would be right to charge me for it. The detail looked great, plus to my surprise the service guy said they topped it of with 93 octane (only octane I use). This is the second vehicle I've bought from this dealership, got ridiculous deals on both just by telling them what I wanted to pay (no crazy haggling) and they've always gone the extra mile even after you bought the car. I know something this simple shouldn't make me so happy, but it's the little things that keep a customer coming back. They clearly know this.

Which dealer? I may need an alternative to mine.

The problem with this world is stupidity.
I'm not saying there should be penalties for stupidity,
but why don't we just take the warning labels off everything and let the problem solve itself.

Yeah 2 oil changes in the first 2 years, anytime, doesn't matter what the oil life monitor says. Now Cadillac and their 4 years of scheduled service is different. I have to wait until 20% or below to get them changed, but they are unlimited during that time. Also I tried with my dealership for Mobil 1, but they said that they have to bill Chevy/GM for the work, which they will not cover anything other than standard Delco/Dexos spec oil for a free change.

I'd be a little wary of that dealer, given they are blowing smoke on the free oil change that they offered. Either they made a mistake and misspoke and decided not to use up one of your free oil changes because they told you incorrectly at first or they don't know what they are doing. Funny thing with these new Camaro's is that so far I've had 2 dealership shops that don't know anything about this car and I have had to find a different dealer. I even filed a BBB complaint against one of them because of their poor customer service and incompetence.

My dealer tried to tell me that about waiting until I was down to 20% too. I complained about it on the dealership survey and they called me a couple days later and told me I could have the changes anytime I want. One of the service managers, who seemed to know what he was talking about, told me you do want that first oil change early because they use a break in additive out of the factory. He said it is a good idea to get that out of there. I don't know if that is true or not, but there you go.

There is NO Breakin oil From the Factory, Also, You should wait More than 1500 Miles before Dumping the Factory oil fill. Rings NEED to seat before switching to Full Synthectic oil. Not following this will Run the risk of the rings Not seating.

I'm not wary of them at all. I've been using this dealer and their service department for the past 12 years. The first vehicle I bought from them was used, shortly after I bought it, it needed a small repair and the part had to be ordered. It was going to take 3-4 days, so they gave me a brand new Z71 to drive until my truck was fixed, and no, they never tried to sell me the Z71. Dealers may do this with people who buy brand new vehicles but rarely for people who've bought a used vehicle. They also have multiple world class technicians, I grew up with and have been friends with one of them for 20 years. This dealer is the only "small town" locally owned dealerships left in this area.

After looking at my Customer Acknowlegment Form, it actually states "Chevrolet Maintenance covers two scheduled oil and oil filter changes and tire rotations, in accordance with your new vehicle's recommended maintenance schedule and Oil Life Monitoring system". Considering the manufacturer's recommended services are to be performed at 20% oil life or once every year, which ever comes first. Unless you can produce something in writing from Chevrolet stating that their service recommendations and the oil life monitoring system has no bearing on whether they reimburse the dealer or not for scheduled maintenance during the 2 year 24 month service period, I'd say they may be telling the truth.

Stock cast rings are almost always seated between 500-1000 miles. Under typical driving heat cycles, rarely will they ever need 1500 miles. I've worked off and on part-time at a machine shop assembling engines for the past 17 years.
