...but its not that simple. GM has production costs in the hundreds of millions of dollars to amortize over the life cycle of the Camaro.
This program should not be as expensive as the Mustang program. The Camaro shares a factory with the ATS and CTS, cars that GM needs/needed to compete with BMW/Merc. The engine is basically right out of the Corvette.

It wasn't free, but the costs are shared among multiple programs that they run.

I assure you all that the Camaro is not what is giving GM their profit.

I told you all a couple pages back that there are reps who are indeed worried about Camaro sales.

I work within the industry and ask when I get the chance to about how things are going.

The reason why people are clamoring about sales here when they weren't with the fifth gen was because the difference in sales of the mustang compared to the Camaro wasn't as steep as it is now.

Not only that but you now see that the challenger is actually outselling the Camaro and that is not a good thing.

There is a reason why the dealer inventory is rising.

They were hoping to maintain sales or be pretty close to the last gen and it's not happening.

The Camaro is supposed to be the vehicle that helps pay for the alpha platform costs. The ats and cts sure aren't.

Now as long as GM is actually making profits to help the bleeding alpha platform you won't have to worry about it.

It is what it is.

Oh my word! Get ready for the pitchforks and fire. It can't be. Everything is fine. Nothing to see here.

Oh and the Challenger has consistently increased sales since 09. The Camaro, not so much.

The amount of sales that where inflated by the way the reported made very little impact to the overall amount of cars sold. Something like 4500 cars 'over reported' over all those years over all their makes/models.

Really not worth mentioning when you drill down to 1 product out of the many that they sell.

That makes zero sense. Maybe if you said "projected" profits it would.

Plenty of things mentioned here that are not worth discussing.

Other than the fact the challenger even without inflated numbers still outsold the Camaro.

Well, try not to add to those things then? The FCA monthly reporting errors made no impact on the Mustang vs Camaro vs Challenger situation outside a few cars here or there.

That means the gross company layout is much smaller, which maximizes net profits.
Yep, gross margins for the win.

Can they remove the rental fleet sales for a better comparison?

Well, that we know of anyhow. With all the corruption going on in the auto industry these days who knows what GM is doing. They certainly have prooven themselves to cover their asses over customer service and safety in the past until they got caught. So who knows what they are reporting. I don't trust any corporation, but that's another thread no for this site.
