Hindsight 20/20 - 6th Gen Sales

I can remember when there were huge debates on this site over whether the 6th Gen Camaro should have a radical change or not. Some wanted a 2nd or 3rd Gen inspired Camaro and others didn't want such a dramatic change. Some thought the 5th Gen refresh would hurt the 6th Gen sales. I understood GM's position. From 2009 to 2014 the Camaro was kicking ass so why change what was working too much? Ford had to make a dramatic change. But maybe GM went to the well too many times with this 1st Gen inspired Camaro and the sales are showing that..

The look is more evolutionary, it looks more modern and less boxy, but it's still kind of a boxy "muscle head" car - the rear end is a huge improvement in my opinion.

There really isn't anything less than $100k out there right now that blows me away design/aesthetics wise with the possible exception of the (hopefully forthcoming) RX Vision

The new Lexus RC-F is just hideous, Beemers and Audis cover the roads like flies, and the 370Z always looked kind of pregnant to me. Mustangs look like crap, and the GT350 is a bloated, snorkel face albatross. The vette - eh, it's ok

The sales are fine, profit is up. Ford tanked. Combine this thread with the monthly sales thread, everything you need to know is in those 100 pages.

The drastic change with the Mustang was going from a solid rear axle to an IRS setup. The looks were still more evolutionary in nature compared to the last gen.

I am in the position of they got the 6th gen's design right, but combination of price and the 2014 refresh sort of let the wind out of the sails heading into the 6th gen.

Oh I'm happy with the design. If I wasn't I wouldn't of purchased one. But going down to 3rd place from being number 1 is troublesome considering the work they put into this car.

Agreed the Mustang looks horrible... But they flying off the dealership lots! Obviously they came up with a design that is resonating with the consumer.

I believe July sales numbers will be reported on Tuesday, 8/02, since the end of the month was on a weekend.

The Mustang is flying off the lots because they are cheaper. But I sat in one and immediately thought it was too small. I went to the dealership originally to look at C7 Corvettes but the salesman mentioned that the new Camaro was worth a look and it was all over. I wouldn't have considered a C5 Camaro - no offense to anyone who loves theirs. It just wasn't interesting to me but the C6 Camaro is easily one of the nicest cars I've ever owned bang for the buck. I have 700 miles on mine and every time I drive it I simply marvel at how GM got this one exactly right - for me anyway. I personally don't care how many they sell. As long as I got mine
