Are tpms needed for drag radials at track
Is it necessary to run tpms sensors for track rims with drag radials? Any ill effects on performance?

Well...it depends. There was a post that said launch control doesn't work if the car detects low tire pressure which is what the car will think if it doesn't find the TPM sensors. If you don't use launch control, it may not matter.

No.
...and don't use launch control on a sticky track. The launch control on these cars is nothing like on a Ferrari or Porsche with a DCT. It will cut too much timing and slow you down... |

Launch control works the same way on both transmissions in these cars. A good driver will easily beat launch control. I was consistently two tenths quicker without it, then with it when I made a bunch of passes in my friends M6...I can only see it being a benefit if the prep was terrible.
It was the same way with my Corvette. It's not a bad system, but it can be outdriven. |

I agree with 1LE that it works on the street pretty well, but it also pulls timing which reduces the power, just do a good burn out in the water and let it eat when you see the last yellow, don't wait for the green and if you do your late. No you don't because once you lower your tire pressure with the tpms below about 26 lbs it will come on anyway.

Huh....I cut a 1.956 60ft on street tires with the M6 launch control. Which is the 2nd or 3rd best 60ft currently for a M6. This was on a prepped surface after a little burnout. I agree that a good driver could do better...but we're talking about hundredths of a second. Launch control works OK with no prep...just slower.

Right, and I agree. However for 9/10 drivers on this forum, and for those who don't want to slip their clutch out for the whole 60ft, it works well for a factory implemented LC.

For A8's if the TPMS is ON you CAN turn traction control off but CAN NOT enter competitive mode.
