Fraying of window trim/weatherstrip - normal?
Noticed this today outside the driver's side window on coming back from getting my windows tinted. Don't think it's from the tinting process since it's on the outside. I've had the car 1 1/2 weeks - hadn't opened the windows a lot.

Damn, just got my windows tinted and now I will have to look. That almost looks like where a razor could have tracked as they cut the tint film.
Only say that because you mentioned tint.

I thought that also, but it's on the outside of the window; the tint is on the inside.

Sometimes they place the film on the door outside then cut and trace the tint shape on the outside of the car. They did that on a car of mine, the idiots used a razor and ended cutting up the moulding! |

Unfortunately it looks like that's what happened.
Is this going to cause a problem, like water getting places it shouldn't go? I'm going to have to go back to the tint place. |

Hard to tell from the pics. Looks like it's just on the edge of the trim so it likely won't cause any problems, other then you knowing it's there. I would bring it to the tinters attention though as that happens but they should be much more cautious.

It is a very thin strand along the top of the trim. I'll try to take a pic with something to show scale.

Well, looked at the trim piece end-on, looks like it shouldn't be a problem - there's a relatively large surface that remains against the window itself. Thinking I might have to remove the strands so they don't make their way into the door somehow when I open the window.

Well you did not buy a Porsche. So this is built in into every GM product. They self destruct in 5 years. LOL. Lease your car and don't worry about it.

To summarize, the 'fraying' I saw was because of my tinter cutting into the trim when measuring; it looks like the amount that was cut was relatively small, so it shouldn't cause any functional problems. |
