Honda Accords are ok. Good gas mileage and doesn't look bad either. 1990-1998 should definitely run less than 7k and have some cash for new rims and tires. My wife had an 89 with 115k miles and still got 24mpg city.

Mazda 3, Honda Civic , cobalt all used for the scenario your looking for are perfect good crash tests, good fuel economy, and depending on trim and transmission fun to drive

I strongly reccomend an 05-08 Chevy Cobalt. EXCELLENT gas mileage, low-worries about dings (because it isn't a Camaro, etc), and the small size is invaluable for parking in those small parking spots.

I've got one, had it for 2 years now going to school, and don't know what I'd do without it.

I'd normally give some reason not to buy foreign...but since it's used, it doesn't matter...but they are ugly...

It doesn't have to be a muscle/pony car though. He just doesn't want like a VW Beetle lol.

Look for a 03-05 grand am gt or gtp that should be quick enough, they're not that girly and they're pretty decent on gas

Have you been to a college campus lately?

I don't take offense to stupid comments, but I can say that was a stupid comment.

Honda Civic. Legendary reliability, great gas mileage, and high resale value.

lol considering even a 2.2l balt manual could beat a 2000 V-6 Stang and get better gas milage and not be like ever other fast mustang wanna be trust me there's about 5 V-6 stangs for every 1 2.2,2.4,2.0sc/tc in my town and it's the same everywhere i've been and btw every girl want's a mustang even if they say they don't they do on the inside

I know I'm prejudiced because I rep GM, but I bought my 17 yr old boy a used Cobalt SS, stick, and he would not appreciate the girly handle. The car gets great mileage, is scary looking in black, and the girls and guys seem to like it!

Quoted for truth:

The 3.8L v6 motor is the engine to have on a V6 Camaro/Monte Carlo. The 3.4 engines are a major pain. I can say as such since it was my first car that had one(a 96 Monte Z-34 with a transverse mounted 3.4L from hell.)

So stay in the 98-02 Camaro range or 98-06ish Monte Carlo range. Look for the 3.8L 3800 Series II or III engines. Very reliable if taken care of regularly.
