Camaro Roof Lines
Was at a car dealership yesterday and noticed that the Camaro's with the sun roof have a different roof line than the those without.
Question, does it make a difference for the aerodynamics of the vehicle? See the indentation in the center of the roof on the Camaro without the sun roof. Also looks like the roof is attached differently.? Attachment 806069 Attachment 806070 |

Everything makes a difference in the aerodynamics of a vehicle. Whether or not that difference has any significance to the average driver is another things. My guess is no.

Reverse "Mo" just improves the air flow, plus it looks cool.

I think roof on the cars without the sun roof are made that way to improve the strength of the roof. The cars with the sun roof can get buy without fibs to allow for the big sun roof. The sun roof frame stiffens the roof.

the ribs strengthen the sheet metal of the roof, so it oil cans less than a smooth sheet would. There will be some aero benefit, but more from directing the air, controlling it, funneling it to the most effective part of the decklid spoiler...the center, where the downforce load will be as centered as possible. So I'd say its more the secondary effect that has the noticeable aero impact.
Both were tuned in the wind tunnel and the fact that the spoiler is the same between sunroof and double bubble tells me there was little impact. |
