To change or not to change

So my car is getting ever so closer and closer to 3000 miles (2200), and my question is i have always changed my oil at 3000, but the "oil life" meter on the car says i still have 70% left. So my question is should i go with the ever so sacred every 3000 miles, or trust the fancy computer in my car?

Trust it...new oils are good for more than 3000, if you like to change , change it at 5 or 6 thou.....or annually

I'm doing my first one at 1700, only because I plan on taking it to the track and I'm kind of in old school mentality on the first oil change. After that I'll follow the computer, although with my limited driving it will probably hit the one year before the computer says it's time.
Trying to decide which oil. I'm pretty sure I'll stick with the regular Mobil 1. There are so many oils anymore. I don't mean brands, but extended life, +, ultra, etc. They all have the Dexos rating. Can anyone tell me if it's worth it to go with their "premium" product? The money is no big deal, it's only a few bucks. It seems to me that most of the few extra bucks you pay is more profit for them from marketing than a much better motor oil...

For the first oil change I would play it safe and do it at 3,000 then depending on how often you drive I would say another 6,000 should be a good time to change it. We trust the Joe Gibbs driven racing oil for all of our oil changes . Can't say we've had any problems with it in any of our cars.

Let me know if you have any questions.
