My guess is it is probably somebody playing games and watching our reactions with glee. Most likely the contributor meant Gen 6 and not C6 and didn't know the difference.

Again - why would Chevrolet and Team Camaro not be releasing this sort of info with supporting data?

I won't believe it without further corroboration from reputable sources.

GM has always in the past released all previous runs with an accompanying video as evidence of said run time for all to see. I will believe it once I see or hear it from GM directly.

It could be true and a mix up. Maybe someone entered the info early by mistake.

That's a very remote possibility but a plausible scenario.

P.S. I like your signature pic with MH53D Pave Low in the background, looks cool with your car. I will always have a soft spot for the Echo's.

Agree that this could just be a hoax. It could also be someone at the ring who timed the lap himself (not reliable) or overheard/was told the ring time by someone associated with team Camaro.

Chevrolet only releases the data when they are ready. We know they have tested at the ring and they have not released anything. They don't go tweet out their times as they leave the ring. They come back and analyze, scrutinize, and review all of their laps. They probably have to get management, accounting, marketing, legal and everyone else to sign of on releasing something like a video of a ring lap.

They may be waiting for Ford to announce their upcoming GT500 so they can steal some spotlight from the release. Maybe they want to announce it in front of the Camaro crowd at the Woodward dream cruise.

TLDR: There are reasons they may not have claimed the time yet. One of which is it could be complete BS. I don't think there is any way to know for sure until they make it official.

I suppose we should all give this lap time zero credibility. Especially since we give the GT350 ring time zero credibility. Fair is fair.

That is actually a MH53M pave low. Once in a lifetime chance, I actually flew on that one when I was active duty. It was a blast flying at night with no lights just above the trees.

from a Hot Rod magazine interview with Al O

Quote:
AO: We did, but the way that Nürburgring works during industry pool weeks, which are a few times a year, is, all manufacturers go and you get to do all your testing closed to the public. One of the gentlemen’s agreements is they don’t allow cameras during the day, because while we might have production Z/28s over there, Mercedes or Range Rover or Porsche, they might have something camouflaged. Everyone is sharing the track. To do a fast hot lap, you really need the track cleared, so what they do is every day at 5:10 p.m., they shut the track entrance down. It takes on average, 9 to 10 minutes to get around the track. So if you’re going to do a hot lap, you’ve got from 10 after 5 to about 5:30 p.m. and then they open the track up to the public. During the day, sometimes you get these periods where there’s not a lot of activity on the track and you can run laps, but no cameras. We’ve actually run Z/28 times that are significantly faster than the one we published in the video, but we respect the gentlemen’s agreement, and to protect our integrity, we don’t publish a time that we can’t verify with a video. We could have easily done that. Unfortunately, when we were there, it rained, literally every day at 5 o’clock. You’d see the clouds roll in at 5 o’clock. The day Adam ran that [for the video], I wasn’t even aware it was raining on his side of the track and when he came back in and we watched the video, our jaws dropped. But the fact of the matter is, we’ve run much faster times, we just don’t have the video to stand behind it publically. Hypothetically, if someone wanted to lay claim that they ran a 7.32 at the Nürburgring ring, um, the fact that we were there at the same time and we know who ran at 10 after 5 every day, it might put it into question if that was real. Especially if the manufacturer didn’t stand behind it. Just sayin’.[Editor’s note: If you didn’t catch that little jab, rumors have been circulating online that the Mustang GT350R ran a 7:32.19, uncomfirmed by Ford.]

one last thing, the track was fixed last year, so the only way to know the true time will be to run old ZL1 and new one, to see how much it improved.
