Bad news LGX! Carbon Deposits!

Bad news LGX owners. Looks like we have direct injection worries.

This photo is an intake valve of my 4000 mile 6th gen Camaro. Looks like we need to be concerned with carbon deposits just like every other direct injection engine!

Who's going to make us a catch can? Mishimoto?

For 4000 miles I agree! My mileage is 95% stop and go. That likely plays a role in buildup. But, I generally do daily full throttle pulls on the freeway onramps so it's not like the engine doesn't get some high rpm abuse.

I didn't expect to see that kind of buildup already.

So premium I hope I saw the manual don't use 87... but that's still a lot of build-up and GM still won't answer the issue despite the stock catch can on most 1LE's

The V6 is regular (87) gas recommended. Page 242 in the owners manual

Since its direct injection the fuel never hits the top of the valves so it can't clean them.

Won't matter which fuel is used.

I'd resort to giving up eating out and drinking soda before fueling my car with anything but premium. Regardless of how ineffectual it is in this cleaning situation.

What is weird is that nobody has come forward with evidence of oil in the intake. Even manufacturers of catch cans.

You mean like this:

Thats our 6th Gen with 90 miles on the clock. Catch cans are still VERY necessary.

All the best,

It does nothing in the V6. Nothing. Putting premium in the car is truly a waste of money.

so it doesn't help prevent detonation or pinging? why even produce 93?

You need to back that up, b/c there is evidence (multiple sources) that show using premium in the 5th gen V6 LLT and LFX engines, that the knock sensors weren't nearly as active as using regular 87, which results in smoother, more consistent power. There was also a dyno run done to compare the two, and it showed the 93 making "slightly" more power and it appeared smoother, but it was a difference of power that likely wouldn't be noticed (just a few more HP across the entire curve), and also, dyno's are never perfect. Finally, it was said by two separate tuners that both the LLT and LFX had multiple octane tables.

So....that said. Nothing??? Not sure about that. Does using premium turn the car into a beast suddenly? No. But don't say it does "nothing".
