Camaro RS V6 vs Mustang GT Premium
Just went out for a test drive of each today - handling of the Camaro seems better, acceleration of the Mustang is better. Price around where I am is similar between the two; the Camaro SS is significantly more, and is more than what I want to spend. What do you guys think?

Personally, I'd never settle for a v6 when I can get a V8. No matter which brand it is.

Well, depends on what you are looking for.. If you want the good HP, good on gas, cheaper on insurance, then the V6 is a good option. The V6 the Mustang isn't too bad either just that it doesn't have the bells and whistles.
Now if you're more performance oriented and care about the performance.. then get the GT. If you really care about performance and want a bitching engine the 1SS is perfect.. with a few options it will be about 39-40k. If you want performance and all the bells and whistles.. Mustang GT premium is your best bet. Personally, since I'm a HP, speed junkie and if I didn't have the SS, I would take a base GT with Performance Pack any day over the GT premium. I do hate that lil 4 inch sreen on the base model tho |

I'm in the last category - I want performance and all the bells and whistles. All things being equal I like the Camaro more, but it's significantly more money with the V8 and similarly equipped.

It's about a 2k difference as far as MSRP goes.

You seem more concern about having all the bells and whistles instead of performance.
There are a handful of luxury cars that have descent power.. widen your options |

I'd like both. I have looked at the BMW 228i, but price goes up quickly with options, it looks . . . old, and it lacks a certain 'badness' that the Camaro and Mustang have.

Personally, I prefer the styling and driving dynamics of the Camaro so much so, that I don't give a crap if the Mustang GT is faster, holds the road a little tighter, or costs a couple grand less than my RS. This Camaro is everything I want in a car. It looks great, feels great, handles great, sounds great... has a sweet V6, and cool modern technology. IDK, but I suppose it boils down to personal preferences. I choose my V6 RS over a Mustang GT and a Challenger R/T. A V8 is great; but an SS was out of my price range and I like the Camaro so much, that I'll take this ripping NPP V6 over a GT or R/T any day of the week. |

That's the thing - I know the Camaro is the better car, but power is sooo nice. Trying to stretch to an SS . . .

Just like anything in life. How bad do you want it? How much more is it in a payment? I went through this buying process in my head when I was deciding between a 1SS and 2SS. In the end it was gonna cost me $100 more per month for the 2SS and other options, which is what I really wanted. Well, $100 per month is only $25 per week. You may be able to cut some expenses somewhere to get the car you really want. A few less trips to Starbucks, maybe check your cell phone plan, insurance premiums, etc. etc. Most folks could probably find the money if they wanted to...

If you're really wanting a V8...a v6, unless it has a pair of turbos, will be a disappointment.
In a choice between a V6 Camaro and a Mustang GT I would always go with the GT. In a choice between the Camaro SS and the GT I would go with the SS if I could afford it. |

If these two are your only options, I would probably take the Mustang. I think the Mustang is a great looking car and decently optioned at a fair price. But, like others have mentioned, it depends on your needs. For me, if price is an object, I would search for a 1SS which would beat or at least match the Mustang price and, you would have a better performing car.
