Z28 Rear Spoiler for SS

Anyone know of any plans for a more aggressive rear pedestal spoiler?

A Z28 style that uses the existing mounting locations would be nice.

Honestly, I'd think extensions for the existing mounts would be an easy solution. Bolt on 1" spacers that are color matched or black. Maybe change the angle a few degrees.

Functional or not, that wing is just too big for my taste on this car...

Personal preferences aside (I'm waiting for clean trunk lids to be available). The Z28 looks like it has a wing, while we (SS) have a spoiler. You can't just raise the spoiler and change the angle, because that's not how it works. A spoiler uses it's upper section to change (spoil) the airflow after the car, that would normally go down and bring the rear end up, to reduce lift - a wing uses it's bottom portion to create low pressure and push the car down (downforce). Short story - you'll have to wait for the Z28 spoiler to be available if that's your thing, or just raid a Civic meet

I'm assuming it'll be made available someday soon after the release of the Z/28. I feel there will be a market for ZL1 and Z/28 visual clones. I'm sure some aftermarket shops are working on designing it now.

I personally am interested in the ZL1 spoiler, not so much that Z/28 one. But I'm not going to dog on anyone that would prefer that giant one. I do agree it will be an attention grabber for sure.

It didn't seem that large relative to the typical Honda and Subaru wings to address those comments.

The wing looks similar in size to the OEM SS spoiler, just higher. And yes, I understand the theory behind true aero on a car, having done some research for my track car, which has its own aero components that are more substantial than this.

But in this case, it's just aesthetics. Want to set it apart from the others.

The SS comes with a wing technically, not a spoiler. If it has airflow below it, it's a wing. Some literature will refer to it as a spoiler, but that is technically incorrect going by its design and function.

I like the z28 wing but I don't think the ss warrants that. Just for aesthetics I say do your thing bro. Me personally, I'm waiting for that spoiler just released by ACS to go down in price.

Does it really have enough space underneath it to act as a wing? I think it's a spoiler. I could very well be wrong, but I've done quite a bit of reading on how spoilers/wings work and there's a reason why they're (wings) mounted that high off the trunk - it would need enough unspoiled (by the roofline/trunk) air to actually be effective. GM has some of the best aerodynamics engineers, they would surely know this and not install something useless.

It's definitely a wing. TRUE spoilers do not have any air passing underneath them. Wings and spoilers are always misquoted, no biggie.

Yeah, I just saw that one. It's on my short list.

I'm not sure If I'm mis understanding you, but a spoiler certainly does not create lift on the rear of a car. It is a means of applying smaller amounts of downforce than a full wing, but it also comes at the cost of slightly higher drag to downforce ratio. A large wing can create more downforce at less drag than a spoiler would have to create to reach the same downforce.

Also IMO
Spoiler = No air gap underneath (Nascar)
Wing = air gap underneath, no matter how small (F1, Indy, IMSA, WEC)

So the blade spoiler is a spoiler, but the standard SS and this Z/28 prototype both have wings.
