Nitrous explosion

I have heard several stories (don't know if true) of people leaving their bottle heater on when they left there car and the bottle exploding.
Assuming this is true...how hot does a bottle need to get to explode? Right now it is suppose to top out at 120ish where I live and assume means much hotter in the garage and car's trunk. Can a bottle explode from the temperatures in a situation like this.

Do you have it vented outside the car? The disc should blow first, but either way i would always remove the bottle when its over 100 outside temp.

The new Camaros may be legal without a Blowdown Tube, but every nitrous car i've had that is a daily driver I used one anyways.

NHRA requires a "Blowdown Tube" running from the bottle to outside of the vehicle in any case when there is no "firewall" between the bottle and the passenger compartment. (I do believe the trunk counts as a firewall in most cases.)

The disc/caps im talking about are there in case the pressure gets to a dangerous level, and they will vent in case of emergency. If you have a blowdown tube it vents outside the car. If you don't, well thats quite the mess.

This is usually how mine looked, but I had many F-Bodys and they are hatch cars, so a tube is required.

I'd assume the disc u r referring to would do the trick while parked oitside but I doubt it is a good idea to have nitrous leaking into the garage...the water heater is in my garage.
Nitrous plus pilot light= boom?

Not really the case, nitrous is not flammable by itself, it is just an oxidizer. It requires a fuel to become flammable.

EDIT: Oh, and if you're around to hear a disc burst, you will know. It can still be pretty loud/violent.

Rupture disk should go long before the bottle casing. I left my heater on at a track in Nevada in the summer....like an idiot. Disk popped while we were driving back to the track after lunch. SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME! I will never forget that. Or leave a heater on again.lol

Does it do any damage to the car when it pops?it is under a lot of pressure.

Na. Didnt mine, at least. The disk itself is just a 1/2 step up from tinfoil, in my opinion. So the disk itself doesnt turn into shrapnel or anything. Otherwise, its just fast moving air shooting out. Loud and scary to see. No damage for me.

They are loud and scare the crap out of you when the discs pop. Plus the frosty stuff goes flying. Only had it happen once. (I also was an idiot with the heater)

Bottle is in the trunk now. lol
