insurance rate going up

Just noticed on my renewal next month my insurance is going up $40 dollars/ per month $260/ 6 month. I have geico by the way. My 16 camaro and my wife's 06 altima are the only cars on the plan. curious as to why this was happening i called them. I was told a report on the 2016 Camaro had come out and was not favorable based on mechanics and repair cost. also rate of accidents involving 2016 camaros. Has anyone else had their rates go up during the past month or so? I've never had a accident haven't had a ticket in about 6 yrs and even then did defensive driving to keep it off my record. I'm in Texas so have no idea if it's playing a factor in this. Just wanted to see if anyone else has come across this. Thanks

Insurance rates are ALWAYS going up. That said, I just got into my Camaro and my rates went up $90 every 6 months. Considering I was in a Turbo 4 BMW to a big honking V8, I can live with that.

My rate went DOWN $140 for six months when I traded my 2010 for 2016.

That's crazy. I also have Geico. I quoted a 2016 Camaro for fun online and with the same coverage, it says my premium would go down $8 every 6 months (so basically the same). That being said, I'm not sure what the increases would be from term to term with the 6th gen itself, but to trade up for me it would go down very slightly. Comparatively, I checked out an Accord coupe (I know it doesn't measure up but I wanted to see what the insurance was), and that would raise it $100 per 6 month term! I know it's because the Accords are stolen frequently, but it still surprised me a bit.

I was going to say I wonder if location plays a role; but then again I'm in NY and we're known for high auto insurance here...

I would think Texas would be cheaper overall when comparing apples to apples.

How do you think they're paying for that unending barrage of high end TV commercials? Time to start shopping.

They probably made that reason up. States also impact increases. So do the cost of repairing damages on average overall to all cars, not just accidents. For example, if all of a sudden there are 50% more people driving MB's in your area and you still have a Camaro, your rate will go up.

Geico is also notorious for low balling you to get you on as a customer, then raising rates. I had Geico for years and years and just kept blindly renewing like a fool for as long as I can remember. I finally switched everything to Liberty Mutual two years ago (homeowners, the cars, and umbrella) and literally cut my annual insurance premiums down by more than half while even increasing some of my coverage. Geico couldn't even match it. LM is a reputable insurance company that's making an aggressive push to gain market share by offering better rates...that's the same thing Geico did when they weren't the giant they are now.

Nothing for us so far. Our insurance stayed fairly consistent over the years with our 2 CA5's. We use USAA, and I highly recommend it if you are a vet or have parents that were vets and placed you on the policy.

They had a story on the national news last night saying rates nationwide are going up. They blamed it on lower gas prices=more people driving=more accidents.
