GM intake - tune
So, with the GM intake being removed from the Chevrolet website, what is the best option? Do any of these Companies sell an intake with a tune? Or, is there a separate Company that sells a tuner that will account for specific models of intakes? Ford does this as I had a 2013 Mustang GT Premium and it was easy to get and install the CAI and a tune. Of course it wasn't the best tune since it was e-mailed but the combo shaved about 0.20 seconds off the 1/4 time. Thanks in advance!

The ECU/MAF will more than likely compensate for the air intake alone and not throw a CEL. However, a good tune will increase performance even more. The powertrain warranty is the dilemma for most for sure. Even if you have a problem that is not related to the CAI you run the chance of being jerked around.

for an intake if you have an issue and need something covered under warranty put the stock back on. Unless you get a tune, then that's a different story.

I don't understand the worry on the intake. If something were to happen its a 15 minute switch over back to stock, the dealer can't tell the intake was even on there as you haven't changed the tune and as said above the ECU will compensate for the additional air the intake brings in. I took mine in for a oil change with the CAI on it and nothing was said. Most dealers aren't assholes and actually like to see some mods on the cars they have sold. I have modified all my new cars and have never been denied any warranty if something occurred.

The ECU will only compensate while in closed loop. If the fuel trims change significantly it is because the MAF output has changed for the same input of air mass. The ECM is compensating for a bad MAF output not an increase in air. If the MAF output matched that input the fuel trims would change very little even if the intake is slightly flowing better. At part throttle the factory intake is not going to be a restriction. Yes the ECM can compensate to a degree but it's not necessarily compensating for what you think it is. Unless the intake manufacturer can match the flow characteristics over the MAF element exactly as GM has it a tune is needed to ensure the AFR is where it should be in open loop mode (WOT).

I have spoken to my dealer in the past, and I was told that as long as I did not get a tune, the only part the warranty would not cover would be the aftermarket intake.

GM still states they will be releasing the intake. They had it on display I think last weekend at a car show.
