I've got the S71's in 17x10 with the high pad height. From the research I've done, Weld is the only company that makes wheels to fit the stock brakes in 17's. The tires are 28x10-17 Hoosier D06 slicks. They cost me $1600 for everything mounted and balanced from my local shop, Legend Racing. Same guys that build WhiteLtone's engines for his record setting 4th gen. I got lucky and they were in stock in the warehouse when we ordered them, otherwise everyone else was 3-4 weeks out.

Once I get the axles and a driveshaft, I can really get after it. They definitely are the weak link in the car.

What front tire are you running? I ran the same Hoosier bias plys on C5 Z06's front rims. They hook good but holy hell does the car get squirrely down track. I never made a full pass out of 4 attempts because of it. Right after the 2-3shift the car just goes any direction it wants and at one point almost got into the wall. I'm selling the Hoosiers and running drag radials for now. The radial front/bias ply rear combo isn't fun at all.

If anyone is interested:

I've been running the stock fronts. I had the same experience when I disconnected the front sway bar. It was really bad. With the sway bar connected, it's not too bad. Slicks naturally wander, especially at the big end.

yea I'm old, I think I'll stick to Nitto 555 or nt1 DRs.

looks like I can do 18s at 27" tall and increase my RPM by 15% with nitto DR. Thanks, I have not run a full slick since my 440 dart days, and yeah it would get squirrelly on the top end.

Once the axles and shaft are in the car, it'll definitely be higher on the list.

And I went with a full on slick. It's the Hoosier D06. Next set might be stiff sidewall so that I can get a few more passes out of them. They wrinkle the sidewalk darn near to the wheel....
don't mine me asking how much are the axles and drive shaft running?

The stock tires are 27.5", my 28" slicks do well, but it actually rubs the inner fender a bit on top end. I originally almost got a set of 26" radials, but they weren't in stock and I didn't want to wait.

The slicks move around, but from my experience it's normal. And with the front sway bar connected I don't even notice it anymore.

Unless you plan on upgrading axles, I wouldn't do slicks if you plan on launching the car hard.

My friend (I am I trying to get on here, but he hates forums) has run a few 12.00's in 1000+ DA with drag radials (stock otherwise)...which are much easier on the car then slicks. Plus, you can drive to and from the track on them.

good advise, I meant DRs. This is almost like my Challenger and my LS1 Camaro before that with the 10 bolt.

yeah I have a bracket car with bias plys all around. It wanders too but nothing too crazy. I originally set the hoosiers to 14psi on the Camaro because that's what we've been running in my brothers car successfully with the same tire, except his are the 28x9-15's. 2 passes of that was enough to make me not want to run it again. Decided to raise the pressures to 20 psi and try again. The car was a lot more stable but still not where I would like it to be.

When I ran my 12.04 and again when I broke I was on 18 psi. It wouldn't hook up on 20. It really only broke because it dead hooked. It was later in the day and the track really had w lot of grip. On the 12.04 pass I got 3 rotations out of the tire before I got the backend of the car to the tree, do it saved the axles. DSS says they "should" take 900 hp, but that's with a soft launching auto. We'll see what happens once I finally get the GForce ones.

Where did you get the welds that have high pad height?

Here's the part numbers you need. These are for the S71's. Concentrate on the 17" ones. 17x10 with the high pad height and 7.2" backspace. They clear everything without issue.
