GM has some great performance product in the Camaro SS, Corvette, ATS-V and CTS-V. An ad campain highlighting them as a group would be cool. World class performance for different personalities or needs.
Exactly. They should keep running the ad as a tribute to him.

Let's get back on track guys, I don't know how this became about Mohammed Ali, and Shelby man that was uncalled for.

Anyway, I guess some people need to be more pushy with their dealers regarding test drives. Although test drives do nothing for me, I'm not sure what people expect to gain out of them. I have confidence in GM products, and the reviews/impressions this vehicle has been getting. Also if you're coming from the 5th gen, you kind of know what to expect. It's a stiff, very quick, and sporty car, with great amount of feed back, very fun to drive. All I'd like to do is spend some time with the interior.

I think the dealer should offer the test drive, but I do see the dealers point. I have read about people that took the cars on spirited test drives with a salesman that actually encouraged it. I can actually imagine the abuse the car has gone through. Some people want to stick with the recommended break in, but the people that test drove the car was all over that RPM range. Most customers would not want up purchase a car with test drive mileage on the odometer, this makes it hard to sell for the dealership. I understand both sides.

When I went to the dealership no one came out to talk to me and my gf. I really only wanted to take a look at the new 6th gen and maybe test drive. After no one came out I was about to leave. A salesman ran after me and asked do you want to test drive? Really had no intentions to buy that day but after the test drive I was hooked.

I also see the dealer's side in this as well. Most people want to look around without a salesman hovering over them. When the customer is ready he will head inside and a salesman will be there to hold open the door and assist them.

First test drive I had with the new SS was on a business trip to NC. Brand new, white, A8, with 3 miles on it. I rented it right at the Charlotte airport. Turned it back in with 350 more miles and about 1/2 the tread. From that point on, I was hooked, but I really wanted the M6 with NPP (the rental did not have the NPP).

So, Back home, a week later, I called a local dealership (whom I new had an M6 with NPP), said I'd be over in about an hour to drive it. No problems or questions asked. Hell, I didn't even walk in the door. My gf and I parked next to it, got out to look at it, he was there in a minute to meet us. Slapped a plate on it, and just my gf and I went out for a half hour ride.

Now, the dealer I ended up purchasing the car from required that a salesman go with me for a test drive. That, I could understand.

I guess rentals don't get the 1500 miles break-in treatment?

No surprises here.

Need to rent one to see if it's worth the hype.

No sir, not from me, they don't.
I went through 1 1/2 tanks of fuel driving around Hickory, Maiden, Lincolnton, etc. Nice country roads between I40 and I85. Maybe it was just luck, but I didn't see many patrol cars.
Side note; the a**hats at the rental agency must have put in regular 86 octane. It would ping for a second when I'd go WOT.

This is part of why, in most states, if a car you are looking to buy was ever a rental, the dealer must inform you of that and have you sign a paper saying you were informed it was a rental.

Meanwhile dealers are pissed because the cars are sitting on the lots for 2 or 3 months at a time.

Price is the key. Performance is important only for a small percentage of buyers. Its the masses who try to imitate the performance enthusiasts that actually buy in large numbers. Agreed this cars has a lot more for the price compared to competitors, but maybe all that is not needed. I would prefer a car cheaper to competition to start the build.

Most of the buyers are gonna see the leather seats, the sound system and the exhaust to make their decision and a vast majority of them are not even on this forum.
