Borla Setup for Switzerland
Hello, guys
Iam from Switzerland and at end of Juli iam getting my 2ss 2016 Camaro! ofc with NPP exhaust! now there is the question. My country in Europa is very strong in rules about the max. allowed Decibel Volume for cars. actually the Rules says it can not be louder than 74db only for Sportcars it can be just 1db louder. as i read the Exhaust in trackmodes generates something about 85db wich is allowed cuz the Valves can be closed. (ye smart thing this exhaust with valves) aslong it hits 75 db in steahlt its allowed in switzerland. Im wondering how loud the car is actually in steahltmode with stock exhaust. if somebody knows write it down please. Wat is the db for the borla system in catback version for stealthmode ? so now to the question: i wish to get a borla atak catback system for my camaro. is there existing any documents for Legality the system and write it down to the car papers for EU/Switzerland ?. as i read the Borla Atak axleback is just a little bit more louder and clear than the stock exhaust. almost no diffrence. it means adding Axleback atak for 2k dollars wich adds just small change is a big risk for me. if police catch me without legal papers(and trust me they checking this stuff out!!!) i can lose my driving license and sleep in jail!. can i reach the sound close to a Borla atak catback with just adding borla mid pipes and xpipes etc. and use STOCK rearsystem ? cuz changing the midpipes and xpipes to borla one cant be dangerous for me. police guys cant lay down under the car and checking numbers they just checking rearparts and done.thank for helping! greetings from switzerland- |

Here is a video that might help you understand what the sound levels are at with the Borla systems.
Not sure what the db ratings are at so hopefully this helps. |

Hello Pulish,
This is Axel of Borla Europe. I read your questions and thought I should answer. We are located Markranstaedt(Leipzig), Germany, and we're responsible for testing and homologation of Borla exhausts in order to get EC-Type Approval. The ATAK that you are asking for is not amongst these exhausts. The ATAK for the 2016/2017 Camaro SS is exceeding European Sound Emission Standard values. The reason why is easy to understand: USA vehicle standards require to meet*) a 82dB(A) drive-by limit. As you mentioned correctly, Europe requires not to exceed 75 dB, which affects the drive-by-value only. I'm sure you understand that we do not undercut the 82 dB drive-by-limit for U.S. products if not necessary for a specific reason. Therefore almost none of our exhausts made for the U.S. and other international markets meet European Standards without beeing specifically modified. I could imagine that you have more questions and need help on how to handle your personal issue for your Camaro in Switzerland. I leave it up to you , whether you want to discuss these questions here or you just send me a pm. or an email to axels@borla.com. I look forward to hear from you! *) not all of the 50 states do require these legal provisions to be met |
