Thumbs down Public Service Announcement: Always check your oil after an oil change!!!

I went 200 miles before I checked my oil after a dealer changed my oil. They shorted me 4 quarts even though the paperwork state 10 quarts were added. Luckily I didn't run the car hard at all.

I did not find out until I filled my tank. No idiot light, no knocking or any other strange noise. Hopefully no long term damage was done.

At least I have not filled out the survey's yet...the truth will be told.

This is getting old.

I'd expect this from jiffy lube or something but seriously... a dealer. again.

Had a similar situation with my 2012 recently...I took (2) five quart containers of oil for the oil change (don't really trust anyone much and it is cheaper to bring your own Mobile 1). When they brought my car around, I asked for my two quarts back (2012 is an 8 qt change)...the service guy came back and said, "the tech said it took all 8 quarts"...to which I replied, "Yes, and (2) five quart containers give you 10 quarts!" They did the oil change again and brought me 2 new quarts of Mobile 1 to make up for it. I mean really...who does an oil change and does not check it when they are done? Too much or too little will easily be determined by simply pulling the dip stick...like the signal sticks, they are there for a reason!

Has the oil tube bolt recall performed. They only put in 8 qts. Nothing showing up on dip stick

Just had my oil changed at an Oil Can Harry's establishment at someone else's suggestion. I was impressed! You stay in the car and they have monitors next to you that show you a camera view of what's going on under the hood and underneath the car.

They measure the oil out in front of you and when they are done, they pull the dipstick and bring it around and show you the final level. They even had the exact oil I was wanting in the car.

They have my business from now on.

Dealers will never change, and due to state lobbies , dealers will do what they want. Apprentice kids change oil, not master techs, it's up to you to check their work.

Not the way it should be, but they way it is.

Sad thing is the service advisor is supposed to check their work. That was according to one guy who works at the dealership and was waking around talking to customers who were waiting.

Stories like this is why I change my own oil. There is a good chance no damage was done but I would consider a follow up oil change after 500-1000 miles and consider sending an oil sample to http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ to make sure nothing was damaged or caused excessive wear.

How did you know that they put exactly 6 quarts in?
