If I am going slow enough in first gear shifting between 15-19 mph I just shift into third gear naturally. No point of using second at that point. When I slow down as long as I do not come to a stop I use 2nd gear from a roll. The skip shift never bothers me.

For the people it does bother how long have you driven a manual? Just curious as this is something I worried about but found out it is not a big issue for me at all.

Been driving nothing but stick for about 18 years. I drove a 4th gen Z28 6 speed. Every time CAGS intervened I hated it. The CAGS override harness will be the first mod I make to the car before I go to bed the day I pick it up from the dealer.

Only 50 years or so. When I select a gear I want it to go into the one I select.
As mentioned it's easy to drive around. If it doesn't bother you, Great!
Get caught once in an awkward situation and you'll gladly pay the $15-20 to make it gone..

Truth, once is once too often. I can't imagine driving around the CAGS when the fix is a 5 minute install and has a total cost that may be exceeded by dinner for two at Burger King. If it were 5k and days in the shop driving around it would make more sense. But yeah, as long as a guy is happy it's all good.

Just installed my CAGS eliminator last night. Bought it on Amazon for $16, got it the next day. Took me longer to confirm the jack points than to install it, though it is a real PITA to install due to the tight space between the trans tunnel and the connector that you need to get to. All said, took me about 15 minutes.

I live in Los Angeles and use my 2SS as a daily driver which means I'm crawling around between 1st and 2nd all morning long. Being forced to shift from 1-4 was infuriating since there's no way I can stop and go in 4th gear! Clearly the feature was not intended for LA style traffic. This morning's commute was a breeze without being forced into an unwanted gear.

Just FYI, I bought mine from phastek and it works just fine. No CEL.
As long as they use the OEM plugs, I guess it really doesn't matter which brand you go with.
I had the 2 plug version. No harness or cables tied to each other.

Be prepared though... the space between the transmission and the tunnel is TIGHT.
Really helps to have a couple of long flat-head screw drivers handy.
A lift will make everything so much easier. I just had my car on ramps and I literally had a couple of inches between my chest and the car.... Not so fun.

But yeah, although it's not easy to fish through that space, I had mine installed in about 10 min. Well worth the effort!
HATED that CAGS.

Good luck!

I just bought and installed a CAGS eliminator from Phastek. Is it normal for the skip shift message to still display on the dash with it installed? A few times the message will still appear but I have no issues getting into second gear. I just assumed the message would dissappear with the installation of the skip shift eliminator.

It's normal. Message will still show but it won't force you into 4th anymore.

I'd say that 75% of the time it comes up for me, it pretty much forces me into 4th (or at least out of 2nd.... 3rd still works). That being said, most of the time I can jam it into 2nd if I try, but obviously I don't do that. I've found myself usually just going into 3rd or waiting 2 seconds with the clutch engaged until the message disappears and I can shift into 2nd. So although I make do with it, it is pretty annoying and if there is an easy fix out there I'd definitely be interested in it as well.

There has been an easy fix for CAGS for about two decades...the plug in eliminator for $20. If it bothers you, just buy one.

Dealer refused to install mine today, car was up on the rack too. I hate that @#!$ CAGS. Will try to get it up in the air again this weekend, and get this thing in. Its the Muzzy's version, hopefully its not the one thats been having problems. . .

What kind of problems? I have the same version...

Funny enough, I bought it more than one month ago and I gave it to my dealer, who offered to install it while I was having my tires swapped.

But they then returned the part to me, saying that it was impossible to install it without lowering the whole transmission (a $600 job)???

I guess they are just lazy... but now I'm stuck as I don't know how to get under the car safely

There were posts from another thread that it was throwing CEL's, but I'm not sure if the version we have is the culprit or not. I'm going to try to get a jack and some stands this weekend to see if I can get in there to do it. . .
