Probably more than that, some of the parts of that platform can be traced back to the early 2000's. I don't think they are in any rush to jump to a new platform as the current one is like the only decent (but overweight) car platform Chrysler has now.

Well if they are going from a V8 to an i4 twin turbo, that's a weight loss right there lol.

i4 twin turbo, Dodge is the last of the big 3 to go this route.. smart move to have an fuel economy platform in their lineup.

I expect them to keep the Hemi line of engines too. So maybe 300#'s less for them, but still significant.

Wow! I will definitely have to look at the new Charger if they update it to a different platform. I love the tech that the car has right now, but the old heavy platform they use is a turn off for me. Dodge is moving in the right direction in my opinion.

Oh, and we'll just have to wait until early next decade as the current model is getting a refresh for 2019.
Who cares? Go to the Dodge forums, or other general automotive discussion...

This same rumor mill also stated a year or so ago the Hemi is gone with the new refresh. It would make sense if the platform is that much smaller and coming at such a late date that only turbo 4 and turbo 6 options will be available. I mean Dodge/Chrysler aren't selling small cars, their entire portfolio is SUVs, trucks, and big 30mpg and below passenger cars. They are going to have to take extreme measures to pass CAFE in the 2020+ timeframe. I thought them ditching the Hemi before was crazy but now not so much.

I said it before, the "last muscle car" as the Dodge guys put it is dying. It will not survive past this generation.

Don't be that guy!

I'm a car guy, I appreciate other brands as well. Nothing wrong with chatting about another brand especially if they're trying to improve their own platform.

Fine, you can appreciate other brands. Just post the thread in the proper place and you won't get responses like that. This is why we have an entire subforum called "General Automotive & Other Cars", its for threads like this.

Thread moved

I like reading such articles.

Now, if the Challenger were to lose 500 lbs., THAT would be kinda cool.

The prototype is one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen.

Either way it'll still be a Dodge, which means crappy interiors and pieces that fall off. They need to license the "Sto 'N Go" to people who make quality vehicles like Toyota & Honda so we can throw her Grand Caravan in a lake where it belongs. Such a POS, but it's the only one that has the flip away seats, and we have to have that in her work vehicle.

I'm not sure how you feel about the brand, but the new Kia van does the same thing I believe.

Thanks mt. I'll have to let her know.

We had a new Nissan Quest as a rental in Florida in the fall and were extremely impressed. Better power, smoother, nicer inside, and bigger. It's the seats that are the issue with most vans though.
