I'd like to know too

If stealth Borla is around as quiet as stealth NPP...then I am getting ATAK.

Thanks for the reply, I will give you a call. The local shop I had do the install said it would need to be cut to adjust the tailpipe? Hope they installed it correctly!

Yeah, it's hard to compare without a stock setup next to it. I'm not saying that the Borla isn't worth it, I just didn't think it was noticeably louder. I am still happy with it because I wanted the "Borla" sound versus something that was just a louder version of the factory NPP. Plus I got rid of the stock NPP rattle!

Ok, just talked to Borla. Apparently a few of the systems have a pipe that is either too long or will not allow the pipes to slide together enough. They offered to either send me a different pipe or have my local shop disassemble the exhaust and trim the back of the X Pipe (they will reimburse for the additional labor, if needed). I have opted to have my local shop just cut the X pipe down. I'll post some pics after it's completed. They seemed very willing to do whatever it takes to make it right, so no complaints here!

Got it fixed today

The shop had to cut 1.25" off the back of the X pipe. Looks much better now!

One thing I want to mention first is that the stock mid-pipe does not have any resonators. The differences between our x-pipe/mid-pipe and stock are twofold. First of all our x-pipe technology gives the exhaust a different and (in our opinion) improved exhaust note. Secondly the stock mid-pipe has a section where they "smashed" the pipe, reducing flow. So, our mid-pipe/x-pipe not only sounds better than stock but it flows much better as well. With that said, these 2 elements do not show on a sound meter that only reads decibel levels. If you want to see what the "smashed" portion of the stock mid pipe looks like, please let me know.

The test standard used is SAE J1492 (1169) as per CHP requirements

Stock - 85.7 Decibels
Borla Touring - 94.2 Decibels
Borla S-Type - 97.0 Decibels
Borla ATAK - 102.3 Decibels

There's tons of information on the internet regarding sound pressure levels, decibels and how we perceive sound but here's one quote I lifted you might find interesting.

"Interestingly, our perception of loudness is not the same as sound pressure level. Although the actual formulae
is somewhat complex, as a rough rule of thumb, an increase of 10db SPL is perceived to be approximately twice as loud.
  • Thus a 20 Db gain would seem to be about 4 times as loud.
  • And a 40 Db gain would seem to be about 16 times as loud. "

Here's where I lifted that from - http://trace.wisc.edu/docs/2004-About-dB/

Here's another interesting webpage on the topic. - http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-levelchange.htm

If you take the data I provided above and read the 2 webpages I recommended you can clearly see that our ATAK system is significantly louder than stock.

Any more questions please let me know.
What are the dB in the car?

Sorry to point thie out. $2K for a product that wasn't manufactured properly resulting in multiple trips to your shop.
That is less than ideal.
