I agree this is an unsightly hack job. There are relatively strong double-sided tape brands they could have used instead, and all you would have to remove is the adhesive residue. Self-tapping screws for this application is just stupid.

I heard back from the salesman. He said it was a dealer installed third-party alarm and that I'd have t pay to have it removed.

Did you fill out your post purchase dealer survey yet? The dealers are serious about them because poor ratings will get reprimands from GM and cost the dealer money.

If you haven't, threaten you will give the dealer ALL poor or "1"s on your survey if they don't remove it and replace the panel.

Then do it if they don't!

It was via text message with the salesman. I'm on travel for work and haven't really been able to get by there to have it done or talk to someone in person.

I will escalate this. Just starting off slow and giving them a chance to make it right.

I'm not happy about the possibility that someone has a fob that could possibly access my car nor that they drilled holes in the dash and then want to charge me to remove it.

Seems like a bait and switch.

Dealerships are scumbags. I only bought mine from one because they aren't on Craigslist yet.

Just to update this:

I have not filled out the survey yet...waiting to see how this is handled.

I spoke with the shop foreman. He said it's a shock sensor that they install on all the cars.

He said he'd be happy to remove it for free. As for replacing the knee panel, he would need approval from the GM, so it's getting passed up the chain.
