How to race from a roll?

New to this car but let's say I'm doing a 40 mph roll. Do I put the shifter in manual in 2nd then hit it and switch to drive? I ask because the car doesn't shift on its own in manual mode and I hit the rev limiter.

You shouldn't be street racing.

The slight downshift delay from a roll could cost one the race. I know what he's saying and I'm wondering the same.

Even when performance shift mode is active? If that split second delay is going to cost you the race the cars are identical or they were going to win anyway. I know you can also pull the downshift paddle for 2 secs(?) and it will initiate a maximum downshift on the C7, believe it's the same on the Camaro. Not sure if it stays in Manual mode at that point but probably does. Really if you are splitting hairs like this roll racing, you need to practice and a shift light set to the ideal time to execute a manual shift.

I'm not sure. I've just had one 10 minute test drive with a new SS. Felt almost as fast as my modded 2010 and I was sold lol.

I figured if I couldn't figure it out I'd put the pedal down soon after the second honk lol

Might only be a split second but a lot of people leave early as well... Further compounding the slight delay...

Is 40 Mph where the car would already be out of 1st gear at 6500 rpm? if it is than your at the bottom of 2nd gear range. either go off 1st gear at 30 or 50 in 2nd gear.
Yes, put the car manually in what ever gear you want to go from and as soon as you floor it put it in auto mode or in the drive position and let it shift itself.

Yep that's the problem with it...too many variables. Which is why if that was a big deal to me, a shift light would solve those issue banging off the rev limiter. Trying to look at a analog tach down in a cluster when you are racing like that is never going to be that accurate, even if the tach doesn't have lag which not sure how good the one in the SS is.

Even better solution there. Didn't think of that.

I'm still within the breakin mileage so I haven't been able to play yet. I did ask a similar question regarding activating performance shift mode and was give this advice (below)

bybcous post a tunnel video of his car in performance shift mode that made me a A8 believer.

They do them in certain places I've seen but not a regular drag strip. They look like air fields or something idk.

I do my roll racing in Mexico on long dark highways.

Decommissioned (either perman.or temp. decom'd) airport runways are used for this.
