118MPH is referring to the "trap speed", or speed at the end of the 1/4 mile test. Not the cars top speed.

I think he means the "estimated" top speed listed of 165 mph. Which, is definitely low...there have been a few to already pass 170 mph in private hands.

Link to GM's stated 180 mph top speed?

I know that one dude got popped for 171, and Hennessy hit 170...I haven't heard of anything higher yet, but would like to.

I like how they posted this on facebook "We welcome Chevrolet's 455-hp,nearly-as-fast-as-the-Corvette Camaro to our test fleet. This is gonna be fun." and That metallic blue sure looks good in the sun, too bad its gone.

Between the first and 40k test for the C7? Could be just atmospheric conditions. Definitely doesn't look like traction with identical 0-60 times.

I doubt you are ever going to hit EXACTLY the same numbers any two times. I think the differences here are so small that there really are no differences at all.

Could be a few things really. Same driver? Same track? Plus we know it's a different time and such...those numbers are so close that they could really be considered identical overall.

0-150 mph in 20.9 seconds.... That's absolutely insane for a 455 horsepower car. For reference, the 2013 Shelby GT500, with 662 horsepower, gets to 150 mph in 17.6 seconds according to Car and Driver. That's only about 3 seconds slower for the Camaro SS. That's mind boggling to me.

piggy backing of what you said and others. I noticed some weird things. Im not one for consipracy theories or what have you but those numbers look extra funky.

Let me explain.

I took a look at the data sheet and saw the incredible and posted times for the camaro. I was pretty impressed. but it just looked weird. So then I took a look at the corvettes numbers and they looked awful familiar.

here is the corvettes:
http://media.caranddriver.com/files/...z51-manual.pdf

and here is the camaro:
http://media.caranddriver.com/files/...ltestsheet.pdf

Now you're telling me that the camaro is as fast or even faster in a straight line than a car that has
10 more horsepower and torque
Bigger, and much better tires
and almost 500!! lbs lighter

that doesnt make sense. yes i know they are using the same engine but the camaro is much heavier, and does not have 285 pilot super sports on the back. this is the Z51 corvette we are talking about. they have identical times almost through that list. and thats manual vs manual!

Can anyone explain?

also side note, if i were a corvette owner i would be pissed as all hell that a car that is about $20,000 less is as fast as mine from the same company! thats like a regular mustang gt having the voodoo engine! yes its great for us guys but thats the whole point of a premium product, you can get it better.

The Camaro is lighter and has a better torque curve, it's not that shocking to me. The GT500 was very traction limited, it wasn't hard to produce massive smoke clouds with it, especially the 5.8 motor. It's also possible the Camaro had minimal spin and just hooked vs the GT500.

Also...different times, different conditions.

Overall, still very impressive for the Camaro!
