Traction
For those with fi on their LT4...
If my traction control is off I can spin mid 1st even with a solid launch. That being said I'd think adding this much additional power makes things difficult. Did you put huge tires on? Do you not floor it in first? Just curious. |

LT1 supercharged, will easily spin stock tires in 3rd maybe even 4th gear lol. 275 won't cut it and will need AT LEAST 305 rears. The 1LE and ZL1 (2017, new ones), rock 285/30/20 front, 305/30/20 rear for a reason haha. Plus the e-LSD which gen6 SS does NOT have which isn't a big deal on street use, but road course/autox it is good to have.

After driving for 15 minutes on the highway I dropped to 4th to shoot around someone after letting them pass me in the middle lane. If you push it enough the same thing will happen. I was just kidding myself thinking I might be ok with these. You really have to be very conservative until you get wider tires. It only gets tougher as you pass the break-in and get more comfortable with the added power being there.

I enjoy being able to press the gas pedal down all the way without being overly worried about spinning my car into on coming traffic.
I posted that statement in the general section and people told me not to get a SS, but I have experienced no such issues with it. So I want to get a realistic idea of what to expect out of a boosted one, but it sounds so far that this MIGHT not be for me. |

Well I also should point out that the roads were damp when I left work today, as it had rained a little around 10-11am. If I had wider rubber, I don't think I would've noticed anything. It wasn't bad at all anyway, but I could feel it getting lighter back there and backed off. I also drove back (3 hour trip) in full-on rain on Sunday and had absolutely no issues at all - not even the slightest bit, and I was driving at the same rate as everyone else.
The rate of acceleration and sound is just intoxicating. There's absolutely no going back for me. You can get up to speed so quick, even with just the stock tires and not going WOT. When you realize how fast WOT would be, you just can't do that on public roads all the way up through 5th gear. I would probably be close to 100mph in 3rd before I redlined LOL. If you can, go for a ride in someone's car first or test drive a Z06. I don't think it's as bad as you're thinking it is but it still might not be for you.

While, I'm not driving a 6th gen, I will tell you that drag radials kept me from spinning at 110 mph in fourth gear. In fact even with 20 inch drag radials, the majority of my traction issues are solved. To further that, I would need to go to some 15,17,or 18 inch wheels.

If you're talking about daily driving a car "with that much power" it comes down to driver. If you can't control yourself and your car, you should not own a car like that. After all im pretty sure most of us are not Street Outlaws needing to put down all of the power on dirty streets.
As for the track is has to do with much more than tire width. People put down amazing times with a 275 drag radial, there is a whole class based on that tire. That said it has to do with tread, compound, suspension, track, width, sidewall, temp, psi, etc...

I will agree that a good driver can use his throttle better to keep them from spinning, but that's exactly what he is doing, feathering the throttle. When I go to the track, I want WOT all the way down the track. If I have to play with the throttle to keep from spinning my tires, then I'm not putting all the power that I can to the pavement. And I couldn't agree more, its not always the wider tire that will give you the best traction.

Drag radials will help big time on the street. My MT's only last about 5k to 7k miles, but the amount of traction I gain, without going to 17 inch wheels, is awesome.
