General Questions - Camaro SS

Hey Guys

I currently own a Stick Shift V8 but am looking at a Camaro SS (Trim level2) with all the options.

I have some general questions about the car:

1) Are there are gear lockouts for R ? for example if I were to accidently shift into R instead of 6th while driving at 55 MPH? would the transmission block the shift?

2) Are there any other gear lockouts say for example if I was driving in 4th at 55 MPH and were to accidently shift into 2nd? would the transmission block the shift?

3) What is the benefit of the upgraded performance Exhaust available from GM on the 2016 SS? is it just cooler? or does it add additional speed/power?

4) Why does the 6.2L engine have 455 Pounds of Torque? Where as the Mustang Gt350 has 529 HP and 429 LBs of Torque? - Not understanding why one engine generates the same HP/Torque (Camaro) and many others do not. (Mustang, Porsche, Audi).

Thanks,

R

3) exhaust benifit is sound

4) Generally torque goes up with displacement. Mustang 5.0l, Camaro 6.2L.

I'm surprised there isn't any gear lockouts. So someone could drop it in 2nd while going 100?

Only if they are really bad at driving a manual.

HP= torque X rpm's / 5252

so lets say a diesel engine makes 400 hp. That probably would be at about 2500 rpms. Which to formula would be half of 5252, so it makes about 800 ft/lbs of torque at 2500 to get 400hp.

on the other hand a formula one car makes 1000hp at 15000 rpms only is making about 333 ft/lbs of torque.

So engines with a much higher hp rating than torque rating is making these top numbers over 5252 rpms, where hp and torque would be the same at 5252 rpms

The car would let you know it didn't want to go into that gear. You would have to force it

I'm not aware of any production car made today or has been made in the last 40 years that has anything other than a reverse lockout. Is there some sports car out there that has this feature I'm not aware of?

Ok Thanks for the reponses. What about an Engine over Rev Limit lockout? Would the car prevent me from redlining it ?

Redline is the safety, it will not let you over Rev.

moneyshifting is mechanical so it cannot be limited

Exactly, which is why you ask for the over rev counter from the cars computer before you buy a used manual transmission sports car. A modern car can only over rev if someone screws up a shift. Usually it's not catastrophic but it does indicate excessive stress.

The NPP performance exhaust is for sound only!!

It does not add power or speed.
