Superman vs Batman
Next week the drive in movie theater down the road opens for the season. How do I keep the radio on for the movie? The owners manual describes a service mode, not sure if that is the solution? It's embarrassing to have to restart the car every time the radio shuts off. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't you just push the start button to engage accesory mode.

Yea, this really isn't a problem. Either the OP has no idea the car has all the same modes as a traditional key ignition car or some unforseen issue is at hand.

The problem is the accessory mode only lasts for 10 minutes, the movie lasts for 2 hours. On my last car you could only continue pushing the button 3-4 times before you had to start the car to keep the battery charged. Then you have to step on the brake and the driving lights come on which annoys the other patrons. The owners manual discusses a service mode that will keep the accessory on without lights and other things, I am wondering if that is the smartest choice or if that will result in undesirable consequences?

Accesory mode only stays on for 5 minutes. Retained Accessory mode (which is what you get when you shut the car off until you open your door) only lasts 10 minutes.

If hitting the ignition button once (without pressing the brake/clutch) for accessory mode doesn't stay on long enough, try service mode.
Hold the button down without pressing the brake/clutch for 5 seconds. The car will function as though a traditional keyed system in "on". Engine won't be running. |

From our owners manual
Retained Accessory Power (RAP) These vehicle accessories may be used for up to 10 minutes after the engine is turned off: . Audio System . Power Windows . Sunroof (if equipped) The power windows and sunroof will continue to work for up to 10 minutes or until any door is opened. The radio will work when the ignition is in ON/RUN or ACC/ ACCESSORY. Once the ignition is turned from ON/RUN to OFF, the radio will continue to work for 10 minutes, or until the driver door is opened. And to simply put it in accessory mode: With the ignition off, pressing the button one time without the brake pedal applied will place the ignition system in ACC/ACCESSORY. The ignition will switch from ACC/ ACCESSORY to OFF after five minutes to prevent battery rundown.

It looks like you have something there. Service Only Mode This power mode is available for service and diagnostics, and to verify the proper operation of the malfunction indicator lamp as may be required for emission inspection purposes. With the vehicle off, and the brake pedal not applied, pressing and holding the button for more than five seconds will place the vehicle in Service Only Mode. The instruments and audio systems will operate as they do in ON/RUN, but the vehicle will not be able to be driven. The engine will not start in Service Only Mode. Press the button again to turn the vehicle off.

Thats pretty simple to engage service mode. Will come in handy for sure curious how long it lasts too.
Holy cow I watched a video of The smoking tire and this guy was putting a prius into service mode haha that was the longest most complicated and unnecessary process I have ever seen. Reminded me of doing those video game cheats when I was a kid a huge string of button presses.. funny thing is the owner had memorized it oddly enough. |
