How often do you...
How often do you floor it just for the hell of it?
I find myself doing it more often now that I'm fully comfortable in knowing how she reacts. |

Every day at least twice. Hit a highway onramp both to and from work. Usually pull all the way through second and partway through third.
Even the V6 is fun/fast. Surprising how quickly the v6 builds speed. Very predictable and controllable. I always remember my gen 4's being violent and scary at full throttle (in 1st and 2nd). It's hard to believe the V6 is just as fast.

Very seldom on the street. Usually only when I'm at the track.

Probably once a day, im all urban driving, so its a 0-40 mph interval. But every entrance ramp if its a long one. I dont care about feeling the speed, got over that when I was SCCA racing. I do it as its good for the powertrain and I love the sound of the accessory gm exhaust.

Make sure engine is fully warmed before you floor it. Otherwise you are putting a lot of stress on parts that are not mating optimally.

Every time I get on the interstate. Total disappointment when somebody is on the ramp ahead of me and I only have the 2.0T. It's amazing how quick it gets up to speed or close to speed,
. It's great being in a rural area. The V6 & V8 would probably scare the s--- out of me!

There are a couple of spots on my daily commute where I can have some fun. I usually just pull hard until 4-5k rpm, I mean top of 2nd gear is already 65 mph so not much room to do it legally.

almost everyday. more often then not its just small sprints from 5-45 mph in the city, and the occasional onramp pull.

That's me. All of our speed limits are 35-45 around town. You can't hammer the throttle for 3.9 seconds without possibly doubling the speed limit. I go to the track which is 10 miles up the road.

I tend to floor it a lot when I'm in front at a light that's just turned green. I'll then ease off when I hit the posted speed limit. Most roads around here are 45 mph or higher, so it's enough to have a few seconds of fun.
My 5th gen SS looks, sounds, and feels fast, but the reality is it isn't a very quick car since I am keeping the powertrain stock while it has a warranty. Part of me prefers having a slightly slow car that feels fun than an insanely fast car the feels numb. However, when I occasionally find the ricer with a turbo on the highway who can keep pace with me as I race my way onto the onramp, part of me dies inside. A couple weeks ago, I was driving in front of a VW turbo hatch that basically was as quick from 0-60 as my car. But at least we were probably both averaging a similar crappy MPG at that specific moment in time, lol. Turbos only give you good MPG if you're a light footed driver, and I prefer the loud metallic roar of a v8. |
