Ordering Review & My Order: Selman Chevy - Orange CA

This is on the long side but I just wanted to share this part of my journey so far. Especially since it's been positive so far. Some of the credit goes to you all for the valuable info I've gotten here on Camaro6. I've been lurking around for a while now.

So I decided this past Wednesday was time to order! Especially after hearing the order guide was changed to reflect the blade spoiler being available soon.

My strategy was to email several dealers in my area and hope one would give me the pricing I was hoping for. Beforehand I asked everyone in my area for feed back on my post so I could start with those. Something told me just to send it to Selman first though before sending a bunch out. I was hoping they would win out anyway because I think it's always good if you buy where you plan to service the car and they are also closest to my work. Their website had a "contact us" online form but I wanted to send my email directly to someone to start the paper trail, so I called and asked the receptionist who I could talk to about ordering a car. Someone who has a reputation for good follow up. She transferred me to Vince Eible, the Internet Sales Manager.

After a brief conversation I sent him the email I had drafted. About 45 minutes later I had a quote back from Vince confirming they had an allocation for my order, AND pricing that exceeded my expectations! I was confused LOL , I didn't even have to negotiate. It was that good . He asked if I wanted to come the next day to place the order and it was one of those situations where I was thinking, "I better go before he changes his mind"!

When I got there he was a nice pretty down to earth guy. I found out he's from Michigan but lived out here through high school and went back for college. He stayed there and had a long career working at a GM plant. When he retired he came back to CA and started selling cars. We went on a test drive and he stood by and tried not to laugh as I test fit my hockey bag in the back of their Camaro. It fit barely by the way, man that trunk opening is not very wide but I can make it work! He was more than willing to accept all the things I wanted to have. He showed me their allocation for that week on their internal chart, he said there would be no issue giving me a copy of the GM workbench with order #, sold as SRE and with my name on it, and I already had the pricing in writing on the email. All the transparency I was hoping for.

The only hang up we had was the system was still not accepting the 5ZU blade spoiler so he said we would make some calls and follow up since I had until Tuesday to change the order. No sooner had I arrived back at home I had a call from Vince telling me there was an internal memo to dealers saying orders for 5ZU would be accepted next week and wanting to know if I wanted to wait (which I did). He sent me a copy of the memo and I copied it here for everyone. He said it's a good probability they'll have an allocation then as well but if they didn't they would call and get one. He went on to say there probably wouldn't be an issue, I assumed because they are a higher volume dealer and it's for a sold order.

So there you have it. I'm not usually a big reviewer, my Yelp account is pretty pathetic. I thought Selman and Vince deserved a good word so if you live in the area give them a shot. When my order is officially accepted with 5ZU I will let you guys know!

I've never ordered a car and wanted the experience to be more fun than work. So far so good.

Thank you Sledge. Also thanks for the good videos you've been doing. Hopefully I'll know around this time next week if I'm official.

Refreshing to see a post about a good guy that sells the car. I got the same situation with my dealer, totally upfront and just a good guy. Keep us posted

I agree, a lot of times you only read the experiences of people who are pissed because of lack luster follow through.

Which brings me to today. Once again thanks to the forums I had on my ordering notes that ordering cycles end on Tuesday and start on Thursday. So I wasn't expecting to hear from Vince my Salesman until tomorrow.

However, he just called me 5 mins ago to tell me my order went into the ordering system without issue. Today it did not give him the rejection error for the 5ZU blade spoiler that it gave us last week. So it looks like the internal memo I linked is correct about accepting orders around now.

He told they will know their allocation tomorrow and worse case scenario "they will ram the order down their throat" LOL. He said if they did not have one for that week they will have the regional rep get them one since it's a retail sold order and email me a new workbench reflecting the 5ZU. Very happy with the follow up, this guy is awesome so far. Cross your fingers for me for tomorrow that I'm on my way to 2000 status!

Sorry if I missed it, did you order a 2016 or a 2017?

It's a '16, I can't wait until July or whenever they'll start delivering '17's.

OK so I got the Workbench today! Here's a copy of the order showing the 5ZU, 4th option down.

I agree we need to highlight honest, quality dealers. I wish the site had a dealer look up with ratings like Amazon

Not a bad idea, I bet they could just duplicate the regional forums and sticky threads once one is started for a specific dealer.

So my order was matched to an allocation today since ordering cycles start on Thursday and end on the following Tuesday. It sounds like they are going to wait until Wednesday to give me an update. In any case I decided even though I was excited to let the Salesman call me and he did. Vince is on top of it there. Very pleased so far. He also said he'd be sending me another update as soon as the status code changes.

I remember someone saying on here "Some dealers will put in their allocated orders and let the cycle close automatically on Tuesday night and you will see 2000 on Wednesday (what it sounds like these guys do), while others will submit their allocated orders the same day. Just depends on the dealer." Do you guys think I should ask them to submit my order individuality to get the ball rolling sooner? Does it work like that?

I believe I said that but I should have added customer orders in the second part of the sentence.

I do not believe it makes a difference if the order was placed today or if it actually waits until Tuesday to be placed as to order of being built. The important thing is to get the order placed.

Laborsmith misspoke, you heard it here first folks I'm sure you said that too, when I was gathering info on this car I copied a bunch of stuff you said onto my notes.

Anyway the Salesman, who by the way is from your neck of the woods Laborsmith, told me in an email "All orders are placed with General Motors on Tuesdays... That is just when that software is run and it makes these things happen..." It's only a few more days so not a huge deal.

Nice, I will call and ask for Vince and see what incentives there are for a lease.

Worked with Harbor Chevy in LB and it's about $2500 off with discounts/rebates. But not sure if the rebates will kick in for a lease

My name is Gabe if you want to tell him where you got his info. Good luck to you! FWIW he told me the week before I ordered they had an allocation of 7 so hopefully they have plenty to choose from.
