Stupid question. LPO = ?

I keep seeing people throw around the term LPO for parts and stuff. What does that mean?

If this is something I should know or has been discussed before I apologize.

I believe the acronym stands for Limited Promotional Option...it basically is a dealer installed option that you can order from the factory, but the factory just ships those parts instead of installing them either with the car or separately.

Thank you to those who have responded. This is confusing to me. How does one know which options are LPO when placing an order? Why would it not be installed at the factory? Unless its like a "port installed option" for imported cars and the dealership is the port since theres no actual "port".

That being said, Ive also seen people say that you get whatever part is being replaced by the LPO part back. i.e. the 6 piston brakes, you get the 4 piston back.

If thats the case, it goes back to one of the questions above. How would I know which parts Im supposed to get back?

It increases plant efficiency...
less parts to be selected when production on the line.

They are considered Limited..in that - not many orders
will have the LPO's selected and still allows, personalization to orders.

Any LPO that requires replacement IE: Brakes, Wheels, Bowties...etc...
.....the original part is returned to customer.

Thanks for that Becky. So If I ordered the 6 piston brakes, I would get the 4 piston set as well? If I ordered the upcharged split spoke wheels for $2k, which second set of wheels would I be given?

I bought my car from in-stock inventory and it lists the following items tagged as LPO:

S0J-LPO: Body-Color Hood Vents
S0V-LPO: White Knee Pads
SFE-LPO: Wheel Locks
VW9-LPO: SS Center Cap, Black
YM8-LPO Identifier

I'm not sure what the last one is and I just want to add that I did not get any spare parts when I purchased the vehicle.
